Of late, I have been posting songs from “Aab e Hayaat” (1955) in this blog. Most of the songs in the movie have been sung by Geeta Dutt and picturised on the heroine, though I have also posted a song sung by Asha Bhonsle ( picturised on Helen) and one sung by Hemant Kumar ( picturised on Premnath).

“Aab e Hayaat “(1955) was a movie which had Premnath and Shashikala in lead roles. This movie is known today for the memorable Hemant Kumar song “main ghareebon ka dil”.

This is a song that I must have heard many a times. It is a timeless classic. And considering that this song is from “Aawaara”(1951) and it is sung by Lata, I took it for granted that this song was picturised on Nargis.

I may have heard this song in the past but only in passing. This time I heard it attentively, and found out about its details. I came to know that this song was from “Chori Chori” (1956). Now I wonder just how many great songs were there in “Chori Chori” (1956).

Guru Dutt and Meena Kumari were two individuals who started their careers playing lighthearted sunny characters but then they began to play tragic roles. They got so immersed in such roles that their real lives too became an extension of their reel life tragedy roles.
