I was aware of a movie called “Do Phool” (1973) but it now I have come to know that there was another movie of this name in 1958. This movie “Do Phool”(1958) is far more obscure that its 1973 namesake. This movie was obviously a B grade movie with no saleable stars in it.

In the olden and golden days of Hindi movies,great music was created not only in mainstream A grade movies, but also in lower budget B grade movies. There was a glut of talented music directors and even low budget movie producers were in a position to hire high class music directors.

“Opera House” (1961) was a B grade movie starring Ajit, B Saroja Devi, K N Singh, Maruti, Niranjan Sharma,Baalam etc. Many of the so called B grade movies of those days are indistinguishable from A grade stuff, except for low budget. And as far as the music of these movies were concerned. The music was invariably A grade.

Mushqil hai bahut mushqil

“Mahal” (1949) was a movie starring Asho Kumar and a very young Madhubala. This movie is also remembered as the one which launched Lata’s career as a playback singer. Her songs in this movie became very popular and one of the songs, viz Aayega aanewaala aayega became a timeless classic.
