This movie’s story happens on a cruise ship. Cruise ship travel is still out of affordability area for the common people in India. I do not know anyone who does this type of travel or holidays. The way of life involving Yachts, Marinas and Cruise ships is very foreign to India. I saw one cruise ship in Liverpool. I saw some people who were from that ship roaming around the harbour area, with the Beatles museum, and the eateries, a very ordinary boat ride around the inner harbour/backwaters. They stood out as they were not casual tourists. At least I thought so, as I pride myself on my powers of observation and differentiation.

A R Rahman – The Musician of 21st Century – 8

The film “Dil Se” released in 1998, and by this time A. R. Rehman, has revolutionized the Hindi film music. With the south Indian flavour to his compositions, with various talented singers from the region were flooding the hindi film music world. Mostly his films would be originally made in Tamil, Telegu or Malayalam, and later remade in hindi or sometimes just dubbed in hindi.

His music and rerecording the songs in hindi required, rewriting the lyrics in hindi/urdu to mean and sound the same in hindi films. It was a difficult task for lyricists like Mehboob and later on Gulzar to retain the meaning and spirit of the earlier songs, while converting them for the larger hindi film audience.

Atuldom is a lovely place to be. We have some like-minded film music lovers who make the job of post writing very easy. Let me explain.

I was planning a post on a song from the 1999 released, Milan Luthria directed and Ramesh Taurani & Kumar S. Taurani (under their banner of Tips Cassettes) produced film “Kachche Dhaage”. I was planning the post as a tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan whose death anniversary happens to be on 16th August. He passed away on this date in 1997 when he was only 49.

Deepti Naval is known for her roles in parallel/experimental Hindi films. After watching a couple of her TV interviews, I have come to know that she is a multi-faceted personality. Apart from acting, Deepti Naval is a writer and director. She is also a poet, a painter, and a photographer. Probably, she is the first Indian American who has been associated with Hindi films in India.

Hullo Atuldom

Presenting
“Badi Mushkil Baba
Badi Mushkil
Gore gore gaalon pe hain
Kala kala til”

A song that I love to see. Why?!!
(1) Because of its choreography
(2) Because of the smiling ladies in the sequence.
(3) A visual treat.

Today’s song, like the previous song of “Jurm”(1990) discussed by me, is from a very recent movie ‘Criminal-1995’. The movie made its debut on the blog on 05.09.2008, with its beautiful romantic song ‘tu miley dil khile aur jeene ko kya chaahiye’. After that no song of this movie has been discussed so far.

Today after a gap of ‘4580’ days (breaking earlier record 😊 ‘4579’days) we are going to listen to the second song of this movie in the blog. Like others I was also not aware of the other songs of this movie except its song ‘tu miley dil khile aur jeene ko kya chaahiye’.

01/10/2020 – 101st Birth anniversary of Majrooh Sultanpuri.
—————————————————————————-
Mujh se kaha jibrayil e junoon ne ye bhi vahi-e-ilaahi hai
Mazhab to bas mazhab-e-dil hai baaqi sab gumraahi hai

The Angel(of obsession) tells me that this too is divine decree,
The religion of love is the faith, rest all is deception

Dekh zindaan se pare, rang-e-chaman josh-e-bahaar
Raqs karna hai to phir paaon ki zanjeer na dekh

Look far away from the dungeons, towards the colourful garden and spirited spring
Want to dance (fly), than don’t be bothered by the limitation of feet.

Bahaane aur bhi hote hain zindagi ke liye
Ham ek baar teri aarzu bhi kho dete

There could be other reasons to live
Had the hopes of you been lost.

Jafaa ke zikr pe tum kyun sambhal ke baitth gaye
Tumhari baat nahi baat hai zamaane ki

ASAD 10th Anniversary Celebrations – 1
———————————————————————

I have not been active either on the blog, or on whatsapp groups for quite a while now. Earlier this year I developed a health issue and had to go through a surgical procedure. Things are fine now though 🙂 . Catching up on all the work pending for the last few months.

Let me now get to the post that I would like to contribute.

10 years, that is a decade. . . the “BIG X”. What a journey this has been! Still remember how one fine day, by sheer accident, I stumbled upon this amazing blog, and made my way to the first post that was made – the song “Miley Na Phool Toh Kaanton Se Dosti Kar Li” by Rafi sahab for the film ‘Anokhi Raat’ (1968), starring Parikshit Sahni. Then the next song if I remember correctly was “Tum Agar Mujhko Na Chaaho Toh Koi Baat Nahi” by Mukesh Sahab for the movie ‘Dil Hi To Hai’ (1963), sung on screen by Raj Kapoor and he sings it to the cute and gorgeous Nutan 🙂 .

While I was busy checking up the details of Saif ali Khan whose birthday falls today(16 august), I came across the information that today is the birthday of Manisha Koirala too. I as well as the regular contributors had missed out on her birthday. It turns out that she was born on 16 july 1970, exactly on the same day and year that Saif Ali Khan was born. Could they be identical twins separated at birth, Hindi movie istyle ? 🙂 Not likely, because such separation at birth happens only in non royal families (viz. Pran and Nirupa Roy, for instance:) ). Here both Saif Ali Khan and Manisha Koirala happened to be born in royal families, silver spoon and all. 🙂
