This song is one that I thought I had already discussed in the blog. The first time I became aware of O P Nayyar was in mid 1970s, when I read about him in a Hindi magazine (Dharmyug,perhaps, where it was mentioned that he made a successful career for himself without using Lata Mangewshkar’s voice even once). This got by curiosity roused. I found out that “Naya Daur” (1957) was a breakthrough movie for him as well as for many others associated with the movie. Ao I became aware of all the songs of this movie. One can see the lyrics of several songs from this movie noted down in a a diary where I used to note down the lyrics of songs that I liked those days. One can say that my diary showed which songs I liked in 1970s. And I liked the songs of “Naya Daur” (1957).

Though movie songs have been the staple diet for Indian music lovers over the decades, there used to be a small and loyal market for non film songs (NFS), also known as private songs. Singers like Jagmohan Sursagar, Talat Mehmood, C H Atma, Juthika Ray etc were the biggest names on the private music circles.

We have seen many “tanga” (chariot category for this blog) songs in Hindi Cinema with different situations. In some situations, the hero is chasing his loved one to convince her by praising her beauty. In few cases, heroine is riding a bike with her friends going for a picnic.

I find that there are 18 songs listed under ‘Song excluded from movie’ category in this blog. Although the sample is not representative one to come to a definite conclusion, it is interesting to note that O P Nayyar leads in this category with 5 songs followed by Madan Mohan(4 songs), S D Burman (3 songs) and Naushad(2 songs). Sajjad Hussain, Husnalal Bhagatram, Bulo C Rani and Roshan have one song each in this category.

“CID” (1956) as well as “CID 909” (1967) had music by the same music director, viz O P Nayyar. Unlike “CID” (1956), “CID 909” was a B grade movie though. It was a Bindu Kala Mandir Presentation, which was directed by Muhammad Hussai. The movie had up and coming B grade actors namely Feroz Khan and Mumtaz in lead roles, with Helen, Rajen Haksar, Brahm Bharadwaj, Ram Mohan, Rajen Kapoor, Tuntun, Bela Bose, B. Mehta also figuring in it.

The movie “Baaz” (1953), not to be confused with “Baazi”(1951) was an H G Films production. It was directed by Guru Dutt and the starcast of the movie oincluded names like Guru Dutt,Geeta Bali, Ramsingh, Kuldip Kaur, Sulochana, Yashodhara Katju, Jaswant, K. N. Singh, etc.

“Hongkong”(1962) was a Paachhi productions movie. It was directed by Paachhi and the star cast of this movie included names like Ashok Kumar, B Saroja Devi, Om Prakash, K N Singh, Helen, Helen, Lily, Leo, Bhalla, Baburao, Kitty, King Kong, Kundan, etc.
