“Parvarish” (1977) was one of the four movies that was directed by Manmohan Desai in 1977. It was produced by A A Nadiadwala. It had a small starcast headed by Shammi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Shabana Azmi, Indrani Mukherjee, Dev Kumar, Tom Alter, Yusuf Khan (Zebisco of Amar Akbar Anthony which also released in 1977) plus some of Manmohan Desai’s favourite actors of that year viz. Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Kadar Khan and Amjad Khan. Kadar Khan also was in-charge of the dialogues.

This movie had Shammi Kpoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Vinod Khanna, Nitu Singh, Shabana Azmi, Kadar Khan, Amjad Khan, Dev Kumar, Indrani Mukherji, Hina Kausar, Master Ratan, Master Tito, Chand Usmani, Sheikh, Bhushan Tiwari, Viju Khote, Tom Alter, Yusuf, Meena, Baby Shalu, Moolchand etc in it.

“Parvarish” (1958) was a Roop Kala pictures production. It was produced by Mahiptray Shah and directed by S Bannerji. The movie had Raj Kapoor, Mala Sinha, Lalita Pawar, Nazir Hussain, Krishnakant, Mahmood, Radhakishan, Sheila Vaaz, Meena, Brahm Bhardvaj, Devraj, Munshi, Burhan, Nadir, Jenifar, Razaak, Deepak, Raja, Tilakraj, Sohni, Kamal Chowdhary, Akhtar, Narbadashankar, Mirajkar, Swami etc in it.

When Ramanand Sagar released his ‘Aankhen’ in 1968, the film took the box office by storm, and was declared as a blockbuster by the trade journals. Ramanand Sagar bagged the Filmare award for the best director, and the film also got the Filmfare award for color cinematography. The music was hit, with lyrics coming from the pen of Sahir Ludhianvi and the music from the baton on Ravi. A film that truly settled Dharmendra’s career on a strong footing. In many ways, the film became a trendsetter.

I came across this song a few hours ago. And I wondered where this song was hiding all these days from my view.
This is a nice club/part dance song from “Parvarish” (1958). The song is sung by Lata and Manna Dey. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist and the delightful music is composed by Dattaram.

When I was young, I preferred the music of new movies rather than old movies, and it always annoyed me that there were several movies released in 1970s which had the same names as movies of earlier decades. Thus we had movies like “Andaaz”, “Anpadh”,”Parvarish” etc released in 1970s which had same names as movies of 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. On Vividh Bharati, when I heard the name of these movies , I half expected to hear a song from the newer movie, but I invariably got to hera a song from the older movie.

Here is a typical showdown song between brothers, that was fairly common in Bollywood movies featuring Amitabh Bachchan in 1970s. In this song, Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna are the two bothers and they sing this song in a party called by their parents. Shammi Kapoor plays their father in this movie.

I was not aware that Raj Kapoor and Mehmood had ever worked together in a movie. Now I know that they were together in a movie called “Parvarish” (1958).

In my younger days, when one talked about movies like “Adalat”, “Parvarish” etc, I was reminded about movies of 1970s with these names and featuring Amitabh Bachchan, and the movies of 1958 with the same names were boring in my view.
