“Do Kaliyaan” (1968) is one of those movies that I have actually watched (albeit on TV) and the only thing I recall about this movie is that Baby Sonia (now known as Nitu Singh) had played a double role in this movie (and that is why this title called “Do Kaliyaan” viz “two buds”).

Hindi movie songs are reputed to be sung by the hero and heroine while running around trees. But what happens when the lady has injured herself and is unable to even walk, let alone run ? Does the hero abandon her and runs around trees with some other lady ? Not if the hero is Sunil Dutt. Sunil Dutt is one hero who would take care of his ladies in their moments of need.

Here is a rare bhajan from an obscure movie called “Rooplekha” (1962). This movie was a stunt movie which was directed by Mohammad Hussain for Prithvi Pictures, Bombay. the movie had Mahipal and Vijaya Chaudhary in lead roles with Sundar, raj Adeeb, Shaam Kumar, Krishna Kumari, Amar, Jeewan Kala, Madhumati, Rafiq, Munshi Munaqqa, Mohammad Ali, Ghani, Arvind Kumar, Dondu, Balram, Nazeer Kashmiri etc in it.

There were some movies, especially those made in late 1950s by Guru Dutt that took melancholy to new heights (Depths ?). The Hero, always played by Guru Dutt, would remain gloomy and morose and he would make those around him gloomy and morose too. At least that is the general impression I get whenever I hear the name Guru Dutt. And in his case, life imitated art. He as well as his wife Geeta Dutt let miserable lives in their last few years.

“Afsaanaa” (1951) was a B R Chopra movie and it was one of the first lost and found movies in Hindi movie history. This movie, which was a huge hit during its time starred Ashok Kumar, Veena,Jeewan,Cuckoo ,Pran, Kuldeep Kaur etc.
