Hema Malini was born in a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family to Jayalakshmi and VSR Chakravarti Iyengar in Ammankudi, Madras Province (now Tamil Nadu). She has two brothers. She is a dancer trained in the classical forms of Bharat Natyam, Kuchipudi & Mohiniattam. She owns the Natya Vihar Kalakendra dance school. She is also a producer & director who has helmed films & television serials like ‘Terah Panneh’, ‘Rani Laxmibai’, ‘Bharti’, and ‘Noopur’ for Doordarshan. She also appeared as anchor for weekly Rangoli on Doordarshan. The films she has directed are ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ and ‘Tell me O Khuda’ as far as I can recall. There may be one or two more.

It had Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Soniya Sahni, Jagdeep, Abhi Bhattacharya, Kanhaiyalal, Sapru, Shabnam, Zebunnisa, Roopesh Kumar, Indrani Mukherji, Sundar, Niranjan Sharma, Poornima, Paro Devi, Jankidas, Brahm Bharadwaj, Chandrima Bhaduri, Kundan, Kesho Rana, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Tun Tun, Raj Kishore, Ajay Kashmiri, Prakash Mishra, Machhar, Dilip Dutt, Ratan Gaurang, Wajid Khan, Ravikant, Shefali, Bilkis, Jagdish Bhalla and many others.

The name of Chimanlal Trivedi, the producer-director may not ring bell in the minds of most of the admirers of old Hindi films. In Mumbai, he was the contemporary of well-known producer-directors like Chandulal Shah, A R Kardar, Mehboob Khan, V Shantaram etc in the 1940s.
