“Memsaab” ( 1971), a lesser known movie than “Memsaab “(1956) was produced and directed by Atmaram for Guru Dutt Film Combines. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Yogita Bali, Bindu, Abhi Bhattacharya, Asrani,Meena T., Jayashree T., Asit Sen, Hercules, Jagdish Raj, Mac Mohan, Naval Kumar, Rajen Hakser, Rajan, Shakoor,Tarun Bose, Mridula, Ashoo, Tarun Bose, Mac Mohan,Jagdish Raj, Keshto Mukherjee etc in it.

A few days ago I heard this song on my mobile. There is huge collection of songs, come from where in my mobile I do not know. When the instrument was new, my daughter was trying out all functions in it. She has downloaded many old songs. This has to be one of them. For one born in 1990’s the 1970’s songs are old. I am getting to know what songs are there only now, since I thought to make use of the cache.

When I look at the names of producer, director, lyricist and music director of “Aabroo” (1968), I realise that this is the same team of “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966). Like the 1966 movie, “Aabroo” (1968) too was a musical blockbuster but no great shakes storywise. “Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966) had a great starcast that was sadly wasted. It turns out that the makers had not lost their touch and here they successfully wasted actors like Ashok Kumar, Rehman, Shashikala, Leela Naidu, Jeevan, Mukri, Sunder, Tun Tun, Lalita Pawar, Nirupa Roy, Niranjan Sharma, Praveen Paul, Ravi Kant, Uma Khosla, Nita etc. This movie also had Deepak Kumar, Vimi in lead roles who were immune to such wastage. 🙂
