Zindagi mein sadaa muskuraate raho

Posted on: October 11, 2011

Jagjit Singh (8 feb 1941-10 oct 2011) expired yesterday. So today we in this blog are paying our tributes to him by discussing a few songs sung by him.

Here is a song sung by Jagjit Singh from the movie “Raahee” (1987). This movie was produced by Dr Lakhan Sinha (brother of Shatrughan Sinha) under their home banner namely Ramayan Chitra Associates. Raman Kumar is the director of the movie. The star cast of the movie included names like Sanjeev Kumar, Shathrughna Sinha, Smita Patil, Ranjeet, Om Prakash, Dina Pathak, Manmohan Krishna, Master Makarand, Paintal, Rakesh Bedi, T.P.Jain, Sudha Chopra, Javed Khan,Goga Kapoor, Avtaar Gill,Preeti Sapru etc.

This song is written by Naqsh Llayalpuri. Music is composed by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh.

Prakashchandra, who sent me the lyrics and other details of this song, informs me that he has seen the picturisation of this song on Sanjeev Kumar but that video seems to have disappeared these days. So in absence of the video, I have provided aan audio link to this song.

Here is this song from “Raahee” (1987), which is sung by Jagjit Singh. “Zindagi mein sadaa muskuraate raho”- Keep miling always in life- this is a song with this message.

Song-Zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho (Raahee) (1987) Singers-Jagjit Singh, Lyrics-Naqsh Llayalpuri, MD-Jagjit Singh Chitra Singh

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

Lalalaa
lalaalaaa
zindagi mein sada muskuraathe raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraathe raho
faasle kam karo,
dil milaate raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho

dard kaisa bhi ho
aankh nam na karo
dard kaisaa bhi ho
aankh nam na karo
raat kaali sahi
koi gam na karo
ik sitaaraa bano
jagmagaate raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho

baantnaa hai agar
baant lo har khushi
baantnaa hai agar
baant lo har khushi
gham na zaahir karo
tum kissi pe kabhi
dil ki gehraayee mein
gham chhupaathe raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho

ashq anmol hain
kho na dena kahin
inki har boond hai
motiyon se haseen
ashq anmol hai
kho na dena kahin
inki har boond hai
motiyon se haseen
inko har aankh se
tum chhuraate raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho
faasle kam karo,
dil milaate raho
zindagi mein sada muskuraate raho
lalala laaalalaa
muskuraate raho
Lalala lalalala
lalalala

Prakashchandra and Atul,

This song is very apt as it reflects the views which Jagjit Singh seem to subscribe if I go by whatever I had read about him.
I remember a song penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri :

Hamaare baad is mehefil main afsaane bayaan honge
bahaare humko dhundegi na jaane hum kahan honge

Atul ji,
RAAHEE(1987) was one of the last movies of Smita Patil.Film was made in 1986,but as Smita Patil died on 13-12-1986,it was released after her death in 1987.Similarly 9 other movies of Smita were released after her death.
Truck driver Preetam (Shatrghna Sinha) is in love with Rano(Smita),Durga(Sudha Chopda),mother of Rano is deserted by a Truck Driver only, therefore Durga opposes first but concedes for their marriage after meeting Preetam. On the wedding day, however Preetam does not come, and Durga dies of shoch after hearing that Rano is pregnant.Rano runs away and gives birth to her son near Dr.Fernandes(Manmohan Krishna)’s hospital. She takes up a job as a nurse there only and raises the child as her own.
Bombay Doctor Parbat Kr. joins the hospital, loves Sandhya(i.e.Rano) and finally proposes her.
The film details how matters proceed and the end is happy.
In this film,Smita Patil is shown giving birth to her son,but it was ironical that soon after,Smita died during Child birth only !
The above song was filmed on Sanjeev Kumar and Smita Patil.

As a Producer (Dr Lakhan Sinha) & one of the closest Friend of Jagjit Singh, a Great Guy ,a Legend, this song & Jagjit will always be in my memory.. Besides this Film, he gave the music of another three Films of mine, Prem Geet (Ootho se choo lo tum), Billoo Badshah, and Hum Sub( for Tv in Which he acted also as a stage Singer). What is allotted, cannot be blotted, but Jagjit is alive and will always be alive for us. for friends, for millions of Fans, Well wishers & ‘Chahnewale’. God is Great, He will take greater care of him.
