Talat Mehmood had sung most of his duet songs mainly with Suraiyya, Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Sudha Malhotra. I get a feel of an affinity between the singers on the one hand and the actors on the screen on the other hand when I listen to Talat Mehmood-Geeta Dutt duets. This combination is pleasing to my ears and gives credence to what is intended in the lyrics. The song which comes to my mind in this context is ‘armaan bhare dil ki lagan tere liye hai’ from JAAN PEHCHAAN (1950).
Here is a one more pleasing song from Talat Mehmood-Geeta Dutt duet ‘keh rahi hai dhadkanen pukar ke’ from film LAAL PARI (1954). The film was produced under the banner of N C Films and it was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star cast included Mahipal, Shakila,Tiwari, B M Vyas, Helen, Kuldeep Kaur. The song was written by Asad Bhopali and set to music by Hansraj Bahl. From the name of the film and some of its star cast, this appears to be a fantasy film. Two songs from this film have already been discussed in this blog. Only the audio clip is available of this song. My guess is that this song may have been picturised on Mahipal and Shakila.
There are some songs which are listened best late at night and this melodious song is one of them.
