Ae meri jaane chaman
Posted on: April 27, 2012
There have been quite a few Rafi songs where Rafi has sung with such high energy levels that the listeners are left gasping for breath literally. To this day I keep wondering how a singer can sing with such high energy level throughout in a song lasting well over three minutes and sometimes more. Songs of “Junglee”(1961), “Rajkumar”(1964),”Prince” (1967),”Saawan Bhaadon”(1970) etc readily come to mind as songs whose energy levels could have lit up a few households if harnessed properly.

When I saw the caption of this song, “tere pyaar mein dildaar” I thought I recognised this song. When I started to play it, it turned out to be a Lata Mangeshkar song, while I thought it might be a Shamshad Begum sing a composition by O. P. Nayyar from 50’s. It has a very old worldy feel to it. Actually it is from the Film “Mere Mehboob” and it is composed by Naushad. It goes without saying that it is written by Shakeel Badayuni. This is a kind of song, which keeps going on and on in the head long after you have heard it. I heard this song yesterday, after a very long time. It has three long stanzas in rapid speed. I made doubly sure that it was not posted. This should one of the last 2 songs from the film posted here, if earthmusic.net information is correct.

It is another of my absolute favorite songs and movies. I actually have a superstition that if I see a Hrishikesh Mukherjee Movie on the morning of an exam or an important day, the day will go well. Golmaal(1979) is a movie that came regularly in the morning 6 am slot in SAB Tv and SET MAX while I was in school and thus went on to be a much by-hearted film. In fact I remember when my cousins were 2 yrs old and I called my aunt one day, she told me that they were watching this movie. I replied that I am extremely proud of her, she is giving them the right education and they will grow up to be like me. She laughingly said that then I will shut the movie right away.

At any moment of time, I have lots and lots of contributions lying with me for discussion and I am unable to cope with them satisfactorily. I just realised that it is like sitting on a pile of gems and not finding time to appreciate them.

Here is another song from the Film “Aradhana” which I like a lot. Actually in this genre of songs my favourite is “mere ghar aayi ek nanhi pari” from “Kabhi Kabhi” which is already posted, and the post in written by Lalitha ji.

Chanda ke paas ik taara

Sometimes a rhythm, a tune just sticks into the mind and keeps replaying itself over and over again. This is what has happened, when I bumped into this song two days ago. I was preparing for a write up on Shailendra, having identified other songs (which I will post later now). And then found this song – “dar a dad a daa a dad daaraa, chandaa ke paas ik taara”. The rhythm just refuses to go away from my mind, even though it is a tongue twisting formation, and the mind does stumble sometimes, when trying to go over it. A real foot tapping, ear catching melody that just stays with you once you have heard it.
