Among all the movies based on the story of “Devdas”,”Devdas”(1955) is arguably the most memorable one in all respects, and unarguably so as far as its music is comcerned. The musical team of this movie, as well as the team on whom the songs were picturised cannot be replicated again.

“Ye Raat Phir Na Aayegi” (1966) was a Sri Krishna Films presentation. It was directed by Brij. The movie had Vishwajeet, Sharmila Tagore, Madhumati, Prithviraj Kapoor, Mumtaz, Asit Sen, B. M. Vyas, Helen, Sailesh Kumar etc in it.

“Hamsaaya”(1968) was Joy Mukherjee’s home production. Joy Mukherjee produced and directed the movie and acted in it too. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Sharmila Tagore, Mala Sinha, Rehman, Gajanan Jagirdar, D. K. Sapru, Malika, Madan Puri, Jankidas, Jagdish Kamal, Polson etc in it.

When one looks at the calender of Hindi movie music, one finds that almost every day of the year is important in one respect or the other. Today (31st march) for instance is the day when Meena Kumari expired exactly 40 years ago. I was a school kid at that time and we school kids, on hearing this news opined that “Paakeeza”, the much awaited movie of Meena Kumari would benefit from her death. And the judgement of us pre teen kids turned out to be accurate. 🙂 What Prophetic kids we were those days! 🙂

The film songs of Mukesh do not even number 800, with the current research that is available, but it is still a great treasure. The voice behind these songs, this person, carries a link back into the soul itself – such is the power and the fascination in this voice. It would be a very tough job, to find a Mukesh song that one could say “naah, not worth the listen”. What maybe would seem lacking in numbers is more than made up by simply the quality of sound and the eminence of rendering.

This song, I remember from many years ago, having heard it on the radio and then in collections of Talat Mehmood. Just browsing through the YouTube, I discovered this song again after a long time, and then an added bonus too. This song is also sung by Asha Bhosle in the same film.
