When I plan to write an article for any series or a song, I ensure that I gather more than necessary material,so that I can select the desired material from that.In such exercises,many times I come across some unusual songs-in the sense that sometimes the singer is uncommon,or the theme of the song is different,or the composer is special or even the song is too obscure but needs an exposure. Muzaffar Ali is one of the few Hindi filmmakers who spearheaded what was known as parallel cinemas during 70s and 80s. He came into the scene of parallel cinemas when some of the films under this tag such as Mrinal Sen’s ‘Bhuvan Shome’ (1969), Mani Kaul’s ‘Uski Roti’ (1969), Kumar Sahani’s ‘Maya Darpan’ (1972), M S Sathyu’s ‘Garam Hawa’ (1973), Shyam Bengal’s ‘Ankur’ (1974) etc were critically acclaimed. Alaap a 1977 film was produced by Hrishikesh Mukerjee and N.C Sippy and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee. The film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Chhaya Devi, Sanjeey Kumar, Asrani, Farida Jalal, Om Prakash, Manmohan Krishna, Master Ravi, A K Hangal, etc. It is one of the best offerings of MD jaidev’ in his marvelous career. Dr Rahi Massom Raza and Harivanshrai Bachchan provided the lyrics for the songs.
