Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 19
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

There is a film from 1969 – ‘Tumse Achhaa Kaun Hai”. This film has a classic song, Rafi Sb singing for Shammi Kapoor, that has not yet made it to this blog.  (Yes, I am surprised too 🙂 ).  The mukhdaa of the song is an animated yet a resigned expression of helplessness – so many ladies to be loved, whom should I love – “Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon, Kaise Pyaar Karoon”.  The situation is not too different, when I am trying to select a song for posting here.  Atul ji mentions a specific requirement, and as I sit down to choose a song according to that, I find myself in the same quandary – “Kis Ko Post Karoon, Kaise Post Karoon – Ye Bhi Hai, Wo Bhi Hai. . .”.

So specifically, Atul ji says, he needs me to post one song by music director duo, Laxmikant Pyaarelal.  Ab kar lo baat.  There may be many a hundred songs of this paired music directors already present on this blog.  But as one goes out to select another one to post, bas wohi sawaal – “Kis Ko Post Karoon. . .”.

As is my tendency in a situation like this, I go back to the start of the career of the specific artist, and try to pick an earliest song that has not yet been posted.  Sometimes this method works easily right away.  And many times it does not.  Because, even by this method, one is left facing a choice amongst more than just one song, each one a wonderful creation, and an endearing listen. Aur bas wohi sawaal – “Kis Ko Post Karoon. . .”.  Khair, I then simply pick up the favorite.  I had to resort to this methodical cum random sampling today, and I came up with this absolutely enchanting number that is one of the dearest memory from the radio listening days.

The film is ‘Aaya Toofaan’ from 1964.  A standard Dara Singh offering, directed by Mohammed Hussain for RM Art Productions, Bombay.  The list of star cast consists of Dara Singh, Helen, Anwar, Maruti, Jeevankala, Shaam Kumar, Bela Bose, Padma Rani, Lalita Desai, Champaklala, Habeeb, Prakash, Trilok Singh, Rani, Madhumati, Aruna, Indira, Tuntun, and Shekhar Purohit, etc., with the addition of the following famous wrestlers of those times – King Kong, Baron Wan Hekzi and Ray Apolen, included for a ensuring some competition to the up and coming leading man Dara Singh. Six songs, two songwriters and a pair of up and coming music directors, only in their second year of the career.  The song writers are Asad Bhopali and Faarooque Kaiser.  This song comes from the pen of Asad Bhopali.

A year earlier,in 1963, this music director duo had taken the industry, and the audiences by storm, with their ‘zabardast’ compositions for their debut film ‘Paarasmani’.  Also in 1963 came ‘Harishchandra Taramati” with some very good songs written  by Kavi Pradeep.  Skipping that film brings us to ‘Aayaa Toofaan’ in 1964, a film that is a bonanza of fabulous songs, three of which are already posted here.

The song is duet of Mangeshkar sisters – Lata and Usha.  Onscreen, we see Helen and Rani, as far as I can identify, Jeevankala.  I maybe wrong about the second name and request other knowledgeable readers and friends, to correct my guess.  The dance number is exquisite, and I so is the dance performance by the two ladies.  I am sure the tickle must be running through the spine and the memories.  A folksy tune with dance steps to match.  An enchanting song that was a frequent request on the radio programs.

Listen, view and enjoy.

PS: Prakash ji has identified the dance companion to Helen, as the actress named Rani.

I think it is dancer RAANI(who can be seen in song/dance sequences of Dil diya dard liya-lip syncing for 2 mujras, Phir wohi dil laaya hoon->Dekho bijli doley bin baadal ke ->with Asha Parekh)

She is RAANI and not JEEVANKALA, I am sure

and HABIB(warrior with his hand on his moustache,2 dancers dance around him)(Habib is the same guy who sits with Amjad Khan in famous Sholay when Helen`s “Mehboobaa mehboobaa” when song plays on the screen)

Dear Prakash ji
Thanks so much for the identification.
