Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 87

Welcome all to the ‘Blog Ten-Year Challenge’ series where today we will have a song after a gap of almost a month. Last song posted under the ‘challenge’ was on 25.09.2020.
We missed some opportunities, but today hopefully we will have two songs in this challenge.
If we see the songs posted ten years back on this day (20.10.2010), we had only three posts on that day as given below;

I wonder why Guru Dutt (09/07/1925 – 10/10/1964) who till 1958, had acted in lead roles in films of his own banner only, decided to act in films outside his banner. His first film outside his banner in a lead role was ’12 O Clock’ (1958) followed by ‘Sautela Bhai’ (1962), ‘Bharosa’ (1963), ‘Bahurani’ (1963), ‘Suhaagan’ (1964) and ‘Saanjh Aur Savera’ (1964). While his first film outside his banner as a lead actor may be an aberration, some of his later films as an actor outside his banner may probably have been out of financial compulsion following the box office failure of his film ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ (1959).

“Khaandaan” (1965) was produced by Vasu Menon and directed by A Bhim Singh for Vasu Films, Madras. The movir had Sunil Dutt, Nutan, Pran, Sudesh Kumar, Manmohan Krishna, Mohan Choti, Om Prakash, Ravikant, Arundev, Mumtaz, Sulochana Chatterjee, Lalita Pawar, Helen, Jeewankala etc in it.

Today, October 19, 2020 is the 25th Remembrance Day of Baby Naaz, one of the super child artists of Hindi films who has enthralled the Hindi cinema buffs with her memorable roles. She was a destitute child in ‘Boot Polish’ (1954), the young Paro in ‘Devdas’ (1955), an orphan girl in ‘Do Phool’ (1958), a teenage daughter caught in the marital discord of her parents, Guru Dutt and Veena in ‘Kaagaz Ke Phool’ (1959) and many more roles.

Today’s song is from the film Village Girl aka Gram Kanya-1936.
Nine years later, Ramnik Productions made another film with the same title in 1945 with the famous singer Noorjehan singing under the baton of Melody maker music director Shyamsundar. So, when the name Village Girl is mentioned, one’s mind thinks only of the 1945 film of Noorjehan- Village Girl aka Gaon ki Gori-45.

“Aakhir Kyon”(1985) was produced and directed by J Omprakash. Now I realise why this movie title starts with the letter “A”. 🙂
The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Smita Patil, Rakesh Roshan, Tina Munim, Asrani, Sujit Kumar, Shubha Khote, Beena Bannerjee etc in it.

16/10/2020 – 72nd Birthday of Hema Malini

So the dream girl is turning 7 & 2, 72. This same way we should make 2 & 2, 22. Right ? wrong, imdb is making “two and two make five”, in simple translation of the movie “Do aur do paanch”(1980). They have “Athiest” for “Nastik”, “The patriot” for “Deshpremi” and “Blind law” for ‘Andha Kanoon”. This is great going. But they go a step ahead and translate “Naseeb” as “Destiny and Fate”, whereas “Dard” is “Conflict of emotion”. I learnt today that ‘Trishul” is “Trident” and “Kasauti” is “Criterion” in English. Many of the 173 films listed in the filmography have been left alone, to dwell in their hindi/urdu quagmire. Some titles like ‘Shareef Badmash” ‘Sharafat” ‘Sholay” ‘Sachhe ka bolbalaa”, “ Ek chadar maili si”,”Jise tu qubool kar le” and ‘Maan Gaye ustaad” have been wisely given a wide berth.
