JAADOO NAGARI (1961) as the name suggests, was a fantasy film with Ranjan and Vijaya Choudhary as lead actors. Other cast included Tiwari, Helen and Majnu. The film was produced under the banner of Mukul pictures and directed by Radhakant who had directed some of Dara Singh films such as Rustam-e-Rome (1964), Boxer (1965), Insaaf (1966) and Toofaan (1969).

Music director N Dutta started his career as an independent composer in 1955. That year, two films were released which have music created by him. The films are ‘Marine Drive’ and ‘Milaap’. The musical scores are very impressive in both these films, and that set the pace for N Dutta’s career in subsequent years. Three songs each from both these films are already represented on this blog. But as I reviewed the remaining songs from this film, there is still a few gems contained in these movies that need to be discussed here. “Aazaad” (1955) was a movie which was produced and directed by S MN S Naidu. He wanted the songs of the movies to be recorded within one month and approached the leading music director of Bombay, viz Naushad to compose the music of this movie (9 songs) within that target period. Naushad snubbed him, saying that it was not possible to create 9 songs in one month. Then Mr Naidu approached other leading music directors and they all refused to take up the assgnment.

There are some Hindi film songs, especially of early 50s, which have been in my memory bank since childhood and those includes the songs from “Hum Log” (1951). Two songs of this film viz. Chali jaa chali jaa chali jaa and Chhun chhun chhun baaje paayal (Ham Log) were very popular when the film was released. Those days, these songs were quite often played over loudspeakers in my neighbourhood.
