Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 16
————————————————

15 songs have been covered so far in the ‘ten-year challenge’ on the blog so far and this will be the 16th post in the series.

As we proceed in this journey, it is getting more and more interesting at least as far as I am concerned. I was not associated with the blog ten years ago, so my browsing through the blog for posts of those days give me an interesting singh on the way posts were appearing on the blog ten year ago. My first comment on the blog would appear on the blog on 15.09.2009.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 15
————————————————

12th March, ten years ago. Six songs posted, and six films represented that day.  The films are ‘President’ (1937), ‘Paarasmani’ (1963), ‘Mera Gaaon Mera Desh’ (1971), ‘Elaan’ (1971), ‘Anjaana’ (1969), and ‘Mehboob Ki Mehndi’ (1971). On that day, the 1971 film ‘Elaan’ made its debut on our blog with the song “Aap Ki Rai Mere Baare Mein”.

Of the six films appearing that day, four have already been yippeee’d.  Given the set of popular and familiar songs, the films ‘Paarasmani’, ‘Mera Gaon Mera Desh’, ‘Mehboob Ki Mehndi’ and ‘Anjaana’ have all their songs posted. ‘President’ – the 1937 film featuring KL Saigal and Kanan Devi, still has some songs pending. However today, I pick up the other pending film from that date – ‘Elaan’ of 1971.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2009-19) – Song No. 13
————————————————

When the blog’s train reached 9th March of 2009, ten years ago, one of the songs posted that day was from the 1980 film ‘Thodi Si Bewafaai’.  Till that point, it was the third song posted for this film. Today, after a gap of 10 years, the fourth song of this film finds its place here.  Wow, ten years it took – and none of us thought of looking at this film again during these years.

The New Theatres Ltd.(NT) has given some outstanding and famous directors to the Hindi film industry who got fame on an all-India level. A couple of them got recognition in the international level also. I list below a few of them:

Debaki Bose was known for his films like ‘Chandidas’ (Bengali, 1932), ‘Puran Bhagat’ (1933), ‘Seeta’ (1934), ‘Vidyapati’ (1937). ‘Nartaki’ (1940) etc. Kidar Sharma called him the ‘Dronacharya of film making’. He was the first director who used background music. Probably, he was also the first Indian film director who was honoured with a Certificate of Merit for his direction of the film ‘Seeta’ (1933) at Cannes Film Festival.

Blog ten year challenge (2009-2019)- Song number 3
———————————————

When I began Blog ten year challenge (2009-2019) on 2 february 2019, the challenge ran for two days before hitting a roadblock that lasted two days. The reason was, allthe movies that were covered on 4 and 5 february 2009 were already YIPPEED so none of their songs were left to be covered on the same date ten year later. Same fate befell all movies (bar one) that were covered on 6 february 2009 as well.

The only movie whose song was covered on 6 february 2009 and which still has a few songs left to be discussed ten years later is “Sitaaron Se Aage”(1958). This movie was produced by V L Narasu and directed by Satyen Bose for Narasu Studio, Madras. This “social” movie had Ashok Kumar, Vyjyanti Mala, Johny Walker, Jagdeesh Sethi, Raja Sulochana, Shammi, Manmohan Krishna, Ifthikar, Kundan, Sampson, Krishnkant, Leela Mishra, Rama Sukul, Rajendra, Tony Walker, Sagar, Ravikant, Prem Dhawan, Moolchand Kapoor, Radheshyam, Bishan Khanna, Vasantrao Pahalwan, Sailen Bose, B M Dixit, Patanjali etc in it.

Three days ago (viz on 2 february 2019), I began the blog’s own “ten Year Challenge” where we began to post another song from a movie whose song (another one) was posted on the same day ten years ago. I began this series with “Sharaabi”(1984), and on the next day (3 february 2019), it was the turn of “Do Dishaayen”(1982).

This “ten Year Challenge” was a non starter the next day viz 4 february 2019, because the movies whose songs were covered ten years ago on 4 february 2019 have already been YIPPEED in the blog. Smae is the case for today viz 5 february 2019. Tomorrow givven us some respite because one (just one) of the movies that were covered on 6 february 2009 is still un yippeed. So we can hope to resume this “ten Year Challenge” tomorrow.

Missing Films of 1960s – 92
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

For today’s episode of this series, I present this sensuous song from the 1970 film ‘Veer Abhimanyu’.  As the name suggests, this is a mythological film, which based on the historical narrative from the epic Mahabharat. It covers the part of history of Abhimanyu, the son of Arjun. I give a brief summary below.

Abhimanyu is the son of Arjun and Subhadra. As Subhadra is the younger sister of Krishna and Balram, that makes Krishna and Balram uncles (mamma) of Abhimanyu. Being the son and nephew of the three best stalwarts of this epic, Abhimanyu is groomed to become one of the bravest and best warriors amongst the entire Kuru clan (i.e. both the Kaurav and Pandav lineages).

Today is the 93rd birth anniversary of O P Nayyar (16 january 1926- 28 january 2007).

According to my calculations, O P Nayyar worked in 73 movies and he composed 569 songs in these movies.

This blog has 472 songs from these movies. So, all 73 Hindi movies where O P Nayyar composed music are represented in the blog. 49 of these movies are already YIPPEED. 24 more of movies with O P Nayyar music are yet to be YIPPEED. In addition, one Non movie song composed by O P Nayyar has also been covered in the blog.

So, just under one hundred of O P Nayyar compositions remain to be covered.
