————————————————————

‘Preet Ki Dori’ is  one of the lesser known films of 1971. It probably did not do well at the box office, maybe that is why the film and its music is not remembered. However it does have some very good songs.

The film was produced by Suraj Prakash Seth under the banner of KS Pictures, Bombay and presented by Krishna Kumari. It was directed by Satish Kumar. Story, dialogues and screenplay of this movie was written by R Priyadarshi. The film was edited by Kamlakar. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 25.09.1971.

The star cast for the film includs Tanuja, Ajay Sahni (Parikshit Sahni), Bindu, Nazeer Hussain, Jeevan, Lalita Pawar, Asit Sen, Roopesh Kumar, Mohan Choti, Tuntun, Kumud, Mishrilal, Nikita, Maruti, Randhir, Santosh Kumar, Pal Sharma, Rajnath, Radheyshyam, Soni, Nazeer Kashmiri, Maqbool, Abu Bakar, Dalpat Kaka, Ajeet, N Reddi, Paul Sharma and a parrot ‘Mitthoo’.

Some years back, I recall having seen for the first time on the internet the photo features of Hindi film stars such as Madhubala, Nalini Jaywant and Begum Para in ‘Life’ magazine. These photographs were taken by the magazine’s well known photographer, James Burke in 1951 who was posted in India.  From the standard of 1951, these photographs would have ranked as bold. But one more actress also featured in that magazine – the featured photos were bolder than those of the stars I mentioned earlier. Subsequently, I had also seen her images appearing in ‘Filmindia’ magazines of 1948 and 1949. The actress in the photoshoot of 1951 was Mohana Cabral.

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 16

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Aah yes, this one too. This iconic and popular song from the 1969 film ‘Jeene Ki Raah’, reappeared in a shorter version in the 1972 film ‘Baazigar’. Albeit the use of this song is somewhat casual, and does not seem to fulfill any purpose, symbolic or otherwise. Seems like a time filler, as one goes through the initial part of the film.

If someone pops up the name Jethalal, and asks for an identification, I am sure you will be puzzled to start with. Yes, surely a strange name, that many of the folks interested in Hindi films, will not be familiar with. This name belongs to the dear and popular actor of Hindi films – Sanjeev Kumar. His full real name was Harihar Jethalal Jariwala. Ah yes, now very familiar, right? 🙂

Remembering Sanjeev Kumar on the anniversary of his birth today. Had he been alive, he would have been 81 years old, having been born in the year 1938.

These uplifiting lines are from the pen of Saraswati Kumar Deepak. The poetry composed sometimes in the early 1950s, was presented as a song in the 1953 film ‘Naya Raasta’. Saraswati Kumar Deepak is a song writer who has been confined to mythological and religious fare for most of his career. Active in the Hindi cinema since 1943, his songs can be heard in films all the way to the end of 1970s.

Remembering Saraswati Kumar Deepak today (8th July) on the anniversary of his passing away. And incidentally, yesterday (7th July) was his birth anniversary also.

Missing Films of 1960s – 103
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

The film that we bring on board today is ‘Sati Sulochana’ from 1969. One more film that is rarely heard about, although the video of this film is available. And once again, lovely songs that have not been explored. The sound of this song seems like it was heard on the radio, but that was a long time back.

Missing Films of 1960s – 100

Ah, finally, we get to a new type of century today. This series of bringing on board the missing films of 1960s becomes the series that has clocked 100 posts – a first one for our blog. This series got initiated three and half years ago on 30th September, 2015, and we arrive at the century station for it, at the rate of about 2 to 3 songs per month on average. The pace could have been faster, yes, but well, we have what we have. 🙂

Missing Films of 1960s – 99
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

OK wow, we are at 99 for this series today. 🙂

The surprising thing is that this film is not yet on the blog. It is not obscure, it is not unfamiliar, it is not starring unfamiliar faces, it does not contain unfamiliar or unheard songs, and the songs are good to be heard. So then, how come?
