Now, in this third and concluding part,Raja a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a contributor to this blog, discusses the meeting itself, now known as Gangout in Bangalore. I had no idea about an obscure film TRIKON KA CHAUTHAA KON(1986) except the unusual title of the film when it was released. How can a triangle by itself have fourth angle. That was my pondering point. The title seems to be the indicative of a complicated story line of the film. I had completely forgotten about of this film until few days back when I came across one of the songs from this film. I liked the song and then I heard two other songs from the film which were also good. So I decided to watch this film which was available on YT.

Muzaffar Ali is one of the few Hindi filmmakers who spearheaded what was known as parallel cinemas during 70s and 80s. He came into the scene of parallel cinemas when some of the films under this tag such as Mrinal Sen’s ‘Bhuvan Shome’ (1969), Mani Kaul’s ‘Uski Roti’ (1969), Kumar Sahani’s ‘Maya Darpan’ (1972), M S Sathyu’s ‘Garam Hawa’ (1973), Shyam Bengal’s ‘Ankur’ (1974) etc were critically acclaimed. Being low budget films, some of these films fared well at the box office.

Genius of Jaidev
=============
Four songs from the 1977 film ‘Alaap’ has been already posted in this blog. this one second in my series will be the fifth one. I am not repeating the details of that film here, but will describe the scene depicted in the presentation.
Tawayaf Sarjubai, acted by Chhaya Devi, sings a soulful bandish in Raag ‘Desh’. She is remembering, in flashback, the pain of a prince of some state, Rajasaheb, acted by Sanjeev Kumar, who had just lost his beloved wife. Many tawayafs were patronized by princes for their singing talents during that period.
Jaidev , unlike the MDs of that era, utilized unknown or rarely heard singers as far as Hindi films are concerned. This duet is by two performing artists, Fayyaz (well known Marathi stage artist) and Bhupinder. (well known non-film gazal singer) I am sure this song will bring tears in the eyes to the sensitive souls and lovers of good music. May I invite you all to listen to this creation and wet the eyes with me?
PS-The audio of the solo version of the song is now uploaded by Sudhir ji alongwith the Devnagri lyrics. The two versions are identical except for one extra line repeated in the duet version at the end.

Parichay (1972) was Gulzar’s third film as a director. With this film began a fruitful association with R D Burman, who would henceforth give music nearly to all his films, so long the latter lived. Achanak(1973), Mausam (1977), Meera (1979) and Lekin (1999) being the exceptions.

Earlier today, Atul informed me that we are now closing in on 1400 songs for Asha Bhosle on the blog and maybe I’d like to do a write-up for her 1400th?
To date, I have never ever refused a request from Atul to do a write-up – and today was no exception. I immediately said “Sure”. For it is not just a pleasure, but also an honour, to do a write-up here on this blog. And if I ever have to say “no, sorry” to Atul, it would only be because of genuine constraints, never because of any other reason.
Thankfully that day hasn’t come yet – and hopefully it will not. Anything I can do to contribute to this blog in any capacity, I’d be happy to do.

This is the only song missing from Kinara (1977) on this blog. The song is in flashback, when Aarti (Hema Malini) remembers her fiancé (Dharmendra) and their times together. He has died in a car accident.
