There is one genre of songs in Bollywood that could be called Kishore kumar acted comedy songs. These songs, where Kishore Kumar acts as well as sings, and in addition does some great comedy as well, are worth going miles to watch.

“Ek Hi Raasta” (1956) was a heart warming movie, going by the songs of this movie. Meena Kumari, who later became known for playing tragedy roles, played a happy character in this movie. Sunil Dutt played her husband and Daisy Irani played their kid. I had earlier posted a nice song from this movie viz “chali gori pi ke milan ko chali”.

Nainon mein darpan hai

This is a duet sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar,two of the biggest names among playback singers. But the same cannot be said about the lyricist and the music director, both of whom were debutants. Maya Govind was the lyricist. She was arguably the first female lyricist in Bollywood. Bhupen Hazarika, known more for his playback singing was the music director of this movie.

This is a “bicycle” song where Rajendra Kumar plays an NCC cadet. He releases a dove into sky and then sings this song riding a bicycle with his fellow bicyclists.

The movie “Padosan” was a laugh riot. The movie was a musical blockbuster too. Apart from the by now legendary ” mere saamne waali khidki mein” “ek chatur naar”,this movie had other hummable songs as well and these songs have their fan following too.

Dev Anand was one of the leading heart throbs of Bollywood in 1950s and 60s. It is my personal opinion that he should have retired from playing teenage hero in 1960s as soon as he turned 40.
