Imagine the treasures lost. The true magnitude may never be measured correctly. We have a definitive record, in the shape of Hindi Film Geet Kosh, which presents the most complete information available. The sense of completeness and correctness can be gauged by the fact that the compiler, Shri Harmandir Singh ji ‘Hamraaz’, went back to dig out the past records of the censor board, and also searched and retrieved as many film information booklets as possible, in his effort to compile as complete and as accurate set of information, as possible. Even with this momentous effort that he has put in, he still acknowledges that the information is not yet 100%.

Shyamlal Babu Rai, who wrote endearing gems in the golden era of melody, such as “Bade Armaanon Se Rakha Hai Balam Teri Kasam”, and also popular hits for the new generation in the 1970s, such as “Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye, To Baat Ban Jaaye”, had started his career back in the 1946 with two completely obscure and now unknown films – ‘Double Face’ and ‘Jungle Ki Pukaar’. Information about these films is not easily traceable, and neither have the songs of these films have surfaced so far.
Remembering Indeewar, song writer par excellence, on the anniversary of his passing away today (27th Feb).

I had not heard the name the film “Pathan’ (1962) until I came across the songs on this Blog itself. However, I had heard two songs from this movie sung by Talat Mehmood which were popular on the radio in the 60s. One of Talat Mehmood songs chaand mera baadalon mein kho gaya has already been covered in the Blog. Not much of the information on the film is available on the internet sources other than star cast and songs. IMDB has tagged this film as family drama. The film may have been bombed at the box office and became obscure over a period of time.
