I was not even aware that there was a Dev Anand movie called “Mahal”(1969). Of course I have heard the songs of this movie, without being aware that the song I was listening to was from this movie.

“Mujhko thand lag rahi hai mujhse door tu na jaa” was just the kind of “naughty” song that kids like me loved to listen to when this song first appeared on the airwaves in 1971. I incidentally did not know any details about this song. With time, this song was forgotten. I rediscovered this song again just a few months back. This time I learnt more details about this song.

There was one thing common between O P Nayyar and S D Burman in 1950s. Both did not work with Lata and used the voice of Asha Bhonsle instead. And that helped Asha Bhonsle’s career no end.

Kishore Kumar and Mumtaz were signed up for a movie called “Pyaar Deewaana” in 1966 when both were relatively small time players in Bollywood scheme of things. The makers of the movie were equally small time players who had signed up small time artists for other tasks viz lyrics writing, music direction etc too and the shooting of this movie progressed at snail’s pace.

“Zakhmee” (1975) had quite a few wonderful songs. For long I thought that these songs were composed by R D Burman. It was much later that I realised that this movie in fact was the debut movie of Bappi Lahiri as a music director.

Bollywood movies of 1970s typically had a “disguise” song where the hero or heroine would enter the heavy security villain’s den in disguise. Their disguise would always be as the lead dancer (s) of the music troupe that was supposed to entertain the guests of the villain.
