Today’s song is a duet of Manna Dey and Asha Bhosle,from the film Dhola Maru-1956.
This was a Folk-lore based story film, made by Cine Workers’ Society, Bombay. It was directed by N.R.Acharya and the Music was by S.K.Pal for the 11 songs by Bharat Vyas. The cast included Usha Kiran, Pradeep Kumar,, Rehana, Sapru, Achala Sachdeva, Kum Kuma and a long list of actors, with actor Ulhas making a Guest Appearance in it.

I do not remember that I was ever aware of this movie ‘Cobra’ or this title in my growing up years. I became aware of this movie only in 2015 when I got the copy of Geet Kosh Vol V (1971-1980). This movie has a song sung by singer Anwar and that is the reason for this post here. I came across the audio of this song a couple of years ago, and now the video of this song has also become available on internet. Even the movie is now available on online platform.
I guess that this must be an obscure movie of its time. Though it is now available online, but I have not yet watched this movie there. Interested readers can watch this movie on internet. I would request those knowledgeable readers who have already watched this movie to please share their feedback about this movie and its songs here on this blog. Geet Kosh Vol-V mentions this movie as a social movie.

In this post I am presenting a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Sharda which is composed by Sharda. I guess this is one of the very few duets they sung together and this must be the first of them to appear on this blog today.
The movie ‘Mandir Masjid-1977’ was directed by Mohammad Hussain for ‘K.K. Movies, Bombay’. Krishan Karim was the producer of this movie which was passed by the Censor Board on 20.07.1977. This movie has in its cast Nutan, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Raza Murad, Yogita Bali, Sajid Khan, Jaya Kaushalya, Rajesh Laher, Nazir Hussain, Lalita Pawar, Madan Puri, Jagdeep, Sanjana, Praveen Paul, and Kamran. They were supported by Shivraj, Mushtaq Merchant, Shaikh, Moolchand, Sabir, Master Hussain, Master Shahid, and others. Jagirdar, Murad, Manorama and Bhawan had special appearances in this movie. “Raaj Kanyaa” or ‘Raj Kanya-1955’ a costume drama film was directed by Vinod Desai for Vinod Films, Bombay. Chandrakant Desai was the producer of this movie. The cast of this movie had Nalini Jaywant, Manhar Desai, Bipin Gupta, Sunder, Sapru, B.M. Vyas, Chand Barq, Ramesh Tiwari, Kumkum, Smriti Biswas, Roop Basant, R.S. Pandey, Raj Shrivastava, Nirmal Kumar, Munni Bai, Leela Bai, Chand, Motiram, Natu, C.S. Dubey, Mahmooda, Jaina, Haroon and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 17.01.1955 which means the movie is around seventy years old now.

‘Chaahat’ (1971) was produced by G M Roshan and was directed by Moni Bhattacharjee. The cast included Mala Sinha, Biswajeet, Jeetendra, Mumtaz, Achala Sachdev, Asit Sen, Sundar, Mridula, Madhumati, Rupesh Kumar, Jhilani, Jayshree T etc. This was the only black and white film in the entire career of Jeetendra and by this, I presume that this film may have taken long time to complete.
It is a surprise as to why Jeetendra signed this black and white film when he started his career as a lead actor in a colour film, ‘Geet Gaaya Pathharon Ne’ (1964). I had recently read two interviews – one by Jeetendra and another by Mumtaz which give me an indication that Jeetendra may have signed the film, ‘Chaahat’ (1971) before the release of his debutant film, ‘Geet Gaaya Pathharon Ne’ (1964).

The year 2025 is ending soon, and a quarter of the 21st century is over. This year has gone by very fast for me, with so much travel. Too much travel in fact that I have lost count. 6 weddings in close family and only one of them in greater Mumbai, which is a record.Mullah ki daud masjid tak, so we travel to Belgaum every time. Add to that visit to UK, plus a visit to Nanded. Another visit to Nanded is due before the end of the year. A 2 day trip to the good old Bangalore. See I forgot the Pune visit for yet another wedding in this melee. Throw in a combining of holiday/relaxation stops to Lonavla and Mahabaleshwar, here you have a full calender.
