Moving ahead with the series on Asha Bhosle singing for actresses whose first names begin with the letter “A”, we come to Ayesha Julka.
Ayesha Julka is another actress whose father served in the Armed Forces. She made her acting debut in the Telugu film Neti Siddhartha (1990). She then entered Hindi cinema with Kurbaan (1991), opposite Salman Khan. The film is said to have been a success, but I cannot remember much about it. The first film in which I noticed her, and which I long considered to be her debut, was Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992).

‘Kal Kee Aawaaz’ (1992) was jointly produced and directed by B R Chopra and Ravi Chopra. The cast included Dharmendra, Raj Babbar, Amrita Singh, Neena Gupta, Fareeda Jalal, Pratibha Sinha, Rohit Bhatia (Debutant), Gufi Paintal, Girija Shankar, Puneet Issar, Arjun etc. This was the last film directed by B R Chopra. It appears that the film was a sequel to B R Chopra’s film, ‘Aaj Kee Aawaaz’ (1984). It is said that the film’s story was inspired from the kidnapping of the then Home Minister, Mufti Sayeed’s daughter, Rubaiya Sayeed.
The main theme of ‘Aaj Ki Aawaaz’ (1984) was the citizens facing the problem from the corrupt system due to the nexus of politicians- criminals-police. A victim of such a system decides to be a vigilante justice giver when the law enforcing agencies fails to protect him. On the other hand, the theme of the film under discussion is the growing menace of kidnapping of children and teenagers from the wealthy family by anti-social elements for ransom as a part of getting easy money. The film also discusses the issues and problems faced by the law enforcing agencies as well the police-criminal nexus. This film was not as successful as ‘Aaj Ki Aawaaz’ (1984).

They we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.
We managed to find “new” actresses (whose name begin with the first five letters of the alphabet) lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. They were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya,Chandrakala,Divya Bharati and Ekta.

‘Abhishek’ (1987) was produced by Nari Hira under the banner of Hiba Films and was directed by Pavan Kaul. The cast comprised of Aditya Pancholi, Archana Puran Singh, Neeta Puri, Dan Dhanoa, Balbinder, Jeet Upendra, Sapna Sarang, Nitish Bharadwaj, Ashok Sharma, Farah Khan, Pravin Bhalla, Tarendra Chauhan, Balwant Bansal, Jeetendra Rana, Gautam Siddhartha etc. Anju Mahendru and Shiva Rindani appeared as guest artists. This was Nari Hira’s 7th film released in video format for TV and VCRs. The film was certified by Censor Board on May 11, 1987 as a video film.

Today’s song is from the social film Albeli-1945.
There were 3 Same Title films in 1945, 1955 and 1974. To match it, there were 4 films titled Albela in 1851, 1971, 1990 and 2001. There was also Albela mastana in 1967.
This was a Talwar production, Calcutta film. Directed by its owner R.C.Talwar, it had music by G.A. Chishti. There were 2 lyricists – Shanti Swarup ‘Kaif’ and Chishti himself. HGFK, however, does not credit any song to any Lyricist or any singer. Thus, one has to depend upon his own judgement about the singer or believe the uploader’s mention.
The cast of the film was Ramola, Rooplekha, Manorama, Usha, Sunder, Heeralal and others. Film Albeli’s review came in the March – 46 issue of Film India magazine. As usual, Baburao Patel had nothing good to say about this film. The film’s story centred around the love affair of a street girl and a Gypsy boy, who is loved by two more girls. The film was released on 22-12-1945 at Central Cinema, Bombay. The story was by Talwar himself. Dialogues and Screenplay was by J.S.Casshyap. The film’s hero was Satish.

The cast of this movie has Rajendra Kumar, Mala Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Premnath, Pran, Sujit Kumar, Madan Puri, Agha, Sajjan, Kirti Kumar, Azad, Ranveer Raj, Shyam, Amal Sen, Amarnath Mukherjee, Birbal, Yusuf Khan, Master Sandeep and others. Kader Khan, Daljeet Kaur, Preeti Ganguly, Asit Sen, Jagdish Raj, and Master Raju had a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.01.1980. Story of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick and its dialogues were written by Sagar Sarhadi.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, three actresses from the Marathi film industry crossed over to Hindi cinema with varying degrees of success. They were Archana Joglekar, Ashwini Bhave, and Varsha Usgaonkar. Although the Hindi film industry was based in Bombay (now Mumbai), only a few leading Marathi actresses were able to establish themselves in Hindi films. Usha Kiran and Jayshree Gadkar were notable exceptions. Most other Marathi actresses found work primarily in supporting roles.
I first started noticing Archana Joglekar (without knowing her name at the time) in the early 1980s as a model and in Marathi programmes on Bombay Doordarshan. By the mid-1980s, she had also begun appearing in Marathi films. Soon thereafter, she made her Hindi film debut with Mardon Mein Mard (1987). She subsequently played a leading role in an Odia film and, later in her career, also acted in a Tamil film. During the 1990s, she gradually reduced her film appearances but expanded her repertoire by working in television serials. It was also during this period that she married Dr. Nirmal Muley and moved to the United States.

If the first part of my drunkard series, I had mentioned that lots of drunkard songs were released in 1974. 1983, a noslagia filled year for me also seems to be rich in this genre of songs.
The drunkard song that I am presenting in this post is from ‘Farishta-1983’.
“Farishta 1984” was Pran Saab’s presentation for his home production ‘Sikand Films’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 13.10.1983. It was directed by Sunil Sikand (Pran Saab’s son), who was also the Producer and Story writer of this movie. He also co-authored the Screenplay of this movie with Tapan Chakravarty. The cast of this movie included Ashok Kumar, Kanwaljeet Singh, Master Raju, Ambika Shourie, Danny and Pran. Bharat Bhushan, Azaad and Master Rajiv Bhatia also had supportive roles in this movie. The movie introduced – Shera – a wonder dog in this movie. Smita Patil makes a special appearance in this movie.
