“Aap Ke Deewaane” (1980) was the first movie of Rakesh Roshan as a producer though the name of Vimal Kumar was officially shown as the producer. The movie was directed by Surendra Mohan. The film had Rakesh Roshan, Rishi Kapoor, Pran, Ashok Kumar, Tina Munim, Ranjeet, Deven Verma, Hrithik Roshan, Keshto Mukherjee, Poonam Dhillon etc in it, with Jeetendra making a guest appearance.

Post “Anand”(1970) and “Mili” (1975),Hrishikesh Mukherji hit upon the formula of family comedy movies. In these movies, there would be an old fashioned strict patriarch/ matriarch who would regard himself as a know all and he would rule his joint family with an iron hand. The story of the movie would let movie goers have a laugh at the cost of that patriarch/ matriarch. This character was typically played by Om Prakash, Utpal Dutt, Dina Pathak etc.

“Bhaagam Bhaag” (1956) was a light hearted comedy movie. It was produced and directed by Bhagwan. The movie had Kishore Kumar, Bhagwan, Smriti Biswas, Badri Prasad, Shashikala, Kumkum, Tiwari etc in it. In this movie, everyone played characters who were named the same as their actual names. For instance, Kishore Kumar played a character named Kishore and Bhagwan played a character named Bhagwan.

Though I subscribe to three newspapers daily, I rarely go through much of their contents and the newspapers finally end up with the “raddiwala” after a few months. But on saturdays I look forward to these newspapers, rather to one column of one newspaper. It is the “Swar panchami” column of Hindi newspaper “Dainik Bhaskar”. In this column, Vividh Bharati radio announcer Yunus Khan discusses a few old songs. And as can be guessed, this topic is right up my alley.
