I have had the link and lyrics of this song saved in my files for some months now. The month of July 2023 was a month of heavy rains and floods in many parts of India. We had incessant rains in Mumbai also, where it was raining day and night, with a few breathers in between.

Hullo Atuldom
‘Sindoor’ (1987) was a movie produced by A Krishnamurti & directed by K Ravi Shankar. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor, Jaya Prada, Govinda, Neelam, Kadar Khan, Shakti Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Aruna Irani, Asrani, Baby Guddu (the pet child actor of those times), AK Hangal, Prem Chopra (if my memory is correct Prem Chopra was in a double role), & Ramesh Deo. Jeetendra & Rishi Kapoor had guest & special appearance respectively. Songs were written by Anand Bakshi & tuned by Laxmi-Pyaare.

During the last eight months or so, I have been writing articles for the Blog covering songs from films mostly released on or after 2000. In my view, the selected songs are melodious with good lyrics, yet underrated. These songs have, more or less the same vibes as that of the songs of the golden period of Hindi film music. It may be a mere coincidence, but I found that most of these songs are from films which are off the mainstream Hindi films.

‘Maaya Memsaab’ (1993) was jointly produced by NFDC, Channel 4 Films, Ketan Mehta and others and was directed by Ketan Mehta. The cast included Deepa Sahi, Farooq Sheikh, Raj Babbar, Shah Rukh Khan, Shreeram Lagoo, Sudha Shivpuri, Paresh Rawal, Raghuvir Yadav, Satyadev Dube, Om Puri, Shrivallabh Vyas etc. The film’s story was based on a classic English novel, ‘Madame Bovary’ (1856) by Gustav Flaubert.

The film industry is a Gold mine for some people and it is a big crater of Mud for some people. It is not that a well established famous film company or a filmmaker does not suffer loss due to a flop film, but new entrants, who enter this field with a hope to make a lot of money, frequently end up with unforeseen obstacles which forces them to dump their filmmaking adventure midway.

Readers of this blog are aware that this year is the ‘birth centenary year’ of the legendary singer Mukesh (22.07.1923 – 27.08.1976). Earlier we had a few posts on the blog for the birth centenary celebrations. When our respected Sudhir ji and Mahesh ji started presenting posts with Mukesh songs I was under the impression that there will be post on every day starting from 22nd July to 27th August (which is Mukesh’s Remembrance Day) since many Mukesh songs are yet to be posted here. That did not happen. But there were some Mukesh related posts till his birth anniversary …

As per Hindu mythology, the Sun god is travelling in the sky on a chariot pulled by seven horses. After pulling the chariot for a long time, the six horses are tired. It is the seventh horse who remains and continues to pull the chariot signifying it to be the horse of dreams and aspirations for the future. In 1952, Dr Dharamvir Bharati published his novella, ‘Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda’. I read the novella in full which is available online. The novella is written in narration style in which the protagonist, Manik Mulla narrates to his three friends, three separate romance stories relating to three girls. What is of interest is that Manik Mulla is not only the narrator of the stories, but he is also the characters in all the three stories who loves these three girls at different points of time in his life. As Agyeya said in his foreword to the novella, ‘Suraj Ka Saatvan Ghoda’ is not the one story comprising three stories, but three stories constituting one story. The author, in his introduction, has revealed that during his early period of writing, he was influenced by Marxist objectives rather than hardcore Marxism. Regulars of the blog would recall that I used to write a lots of posts about my pets between 2012 to 2014. The tales were amusing tales that some people may even dismiss as made up tales. But they were true tales. In one of the posts, I even put up a video link as proof to demonstrate that what I described in that post were facts and not fiction.
