Today’s song is from an obscure film called Maharani Minal devi-1946.
The film was produced and directed by Chimanlal Trivedi for his own banner Laxmi productions, Bombay. The music director was Saraswati Devi. The Lyricists were Ramanand and Neelkanth Tiwari. However, for lack of individual credit for each song in the HFGK, we do not know who wrote which song. Even the uploaders do not mention specific names. The cast of the film included Prem Adib, Leela Desai, Durga Khote, Jagdish Sethi, Agha, Sankatha Prasad and many others.

Today, March 6, 2025, is the 7th Remembrance Day of Shammi Aunty (26/04/1929 – 06/03/2018). Her trade mark smile with a cheerful face which many of us have seen during her six decades of filmy career, masked her chequered life – both personal and professional. The tough life which she had gone through in her childhood made her to accept any type of roles out of the financial necessity. That made Shammi to act in various genre of roles. In the event, she became more well-known in her character roles than her lead/second lead roles of early 1950s.

The cast included Chandni, Suresh, Kishori, Saroj Borkar, kamla, Amrutlal, Radha Kishen and others.

‘Love And Murder’ (1966) was an obscure film which I came to know very recently due to its couple of pleasing dance songs composed by O P Nayyar. The film was produced by B K Adarsh under his banner, Adarshlok and was directed by Raja Paranjpe. The cast included Ramesh Deo, Jaymala in lead roles, supported by Prithviraj Kapoor, Heeralal, P Kailash, Helen, Kammo, Chandrakant, Asit Sen, Edwina etc. One of the features of this film’s marketing was that the publicity posters of the film contained only the name of producer, director and the music director. The names of even the main actors were not mentioned.

Today’s song is from the comedy film ” Mr. Cartoon, M.A.-” 1958.
What a coincidence ! Last Sunday, I had selected a song from this film to be discussed today (usually I line up 3-4 songs for writing posts). However, the same song was discussed by our Sadanand Kamath ji, on Monday, 3rd March. Instead of going for another film song, I selected the only remaining song from this film for today’s post. Being the last song of the film, it will make the film YIPPEED today !

Today’s song is from an obscure but good film Apni Chhaya-1950.
The film APNI CHHAYA-1950, literally means ‘our own shadow’. The story is such that what happens to the father when he is young, happens to his son as well. Only difference is he is the hero in the first case and the Villain in the second phase. The film was made by Chitralaya limited Bombay. The story and Direction was by P L Santoshi, who had also written all songs of the film. The music was by Hanuman Prasad and Husnlal-Bhagatram. There were 10 songs and 7 singers were used. The cast of the film was Balwant Singh, Sulochana Chatterjee, Radhakishen, Mumtaz Ali, Sajjan, Tiwari, Jawahar Kaul etc. Except perhaps the Husnlal Bhagatram duo, major contributors to music, direction, lyrics, acting etc were on the declining stages in their careers.

The cast included Johny Walker, Shyama, Mehmood, Kumkum, Raj Mehra, Baij Sharma, Sheila Vaz, Daljeet, Chandabai, Ranjana, Rajan Haksar etc. Minoo Mumtaz appeared in a guest role as a dancer. The story of the film was written by the well-known novelist and short storywriter, Krishan Chander.

Film Muqaddar-1950 was a Bombay Talkies film in its last gasping years. Established on 22-6-1934 by the adventurous couple Himanshu Rai and Devika Rani. This public limited company was a highly respected organisation in the film industry. Himanshu Rai had a knack of employing very talented and loyal employees. He had employed a lot of Germans in his company, as he had seen how work oriented people they were, when he and Devika Rani studied and worked in Germany. He had also called his fear friend Niranjan Pal from England to write stories etc in Bombay Talkies.

Today (1 March 2025) is the 83rd birthday of Indrani Mukherjee (born on March 01, 1942). I have watched some of her 1960s’ films mostly having pious and graceful roles. She was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in a Bengali Brahmin family. Her father was a doctor and her mother, a housewife. She did her early schooling in Allahabad and completed her high school studies in Kolkata. From her childhood, she was interested in Hindi films.
