A few days ago the blog completed 6500 songs and also 1600 songs of Rafi Sahab. Moreover Lata Mangeshkar also has achieved 1900 songs in the blog. So the two of them have featured in more than 3000 or almost 3500 songs in the blog. The difference being the Rafi-Lata duets and some more songs like group songs where they both are singing alongwith others.

daraaren daraaren hain maathhe pe maula
marammat muqaddar ki kar do maula
These lines written by Prasoon joshi for this qawwali in the film Delhi – 6 have a fascination, that in indescribable. But still let me try.

“naseeb dar pe ter aazmaane aaya hoon” is a song from film ‘Deedar”(1951), which I found again just now. And to find a link with HD restored video clip made me doubly happy. The print is looking as good as new. This song is like one of those cherished childhood friends whom we remember every now and then. With fond memories of fighting, playing and generally enjoying the innocence of those times. What i miss most about that era is the general sense of freedom. Free to live and breath, to think, to say and hear and to form opinions and impressions. Also to like and dislike giving no thought to personal gain and loss.

Today is Poet Shakeel Badayuni’s birth anniversary. I came to know about it just now, as it happens in almost all anniversaries that are celebrated in the blog. Incidentally I had written down the lyrics of this unused song from the film ‘Aan”, yesterday only. When I send two /three song writeups to Atul ji , it is better to give him breathing space. So instinctively, I try to hold on and not send him any more till he posts these.

Here is another song from the film “Laila Majnu”. This is also a Lata-Rafi duet, composed by Madan Mohan. Lyrcist is Saahir Ludhianvi. This must be the most popular song from the film. And for once the songs composed by Madan Mohan were more to the tastes of the masses rather than the classes. This may have been in accordance with the theme and setting of the film, this being a period film, if not historical. Even if this is the sixth song to appear in the blog, the songs of the film are not yet done. There are three more songs that remain to be discussed.

This song is from the film ‘Raaz’, the year is 1967. It is a duet by Mohammed Rafi and Krishna Kalle. It is picturized on the hero Rajesh Khanna and heroine Babita. The composer is the duo Kalyanji Anandji and lyricist is Akhtar Romani. There are two unknown or should I say less known persons connected with this song. The female playback singer and the lyricist. I would have identified Krishna Kalle with the song “meri hasraton ki duniyaa” which is a duet with Rafi from the film “Gaal gulaabi nain sharaabi”, but that was before I heard this duet song from ‘Raaz’. This must be the high point and defining moment in her career where she is getting to sing a song for an ‘A’ grade MD, heroine and Film. This film has a very well known song which is posted here.

‘Jeewan Dhaara’ was a social family film. I remembered about this song when Peevesie posted those two songs of “Golmaal”. I had forgotten the name and song lyrics and tune. I remembered that Kishore Kumar was the singer and most probably it was by Laxmikant Pyarelal, and that it was a funny song performed on stage by Amol Palekar. I vaguely remembered something like ‘gangaram’ and ‘totaram’ in the lyrics. So what did i do. I googled it. And presto ! i had the words “gangaram kanwara reh gayaa”. Then it was just a matter of finding a video link in Youtube, which was easy.

“Aan” was a film which I made a point of watching in the theatre when it was running in matinee show. I pestered my mother till she took me to see this film. And all this because of one song in the film i.e Maan mera ehsaan arre naadaan ke maine tujhse kiya hai pyaar
