Today(8 february 2017) is the first death anniversary of Nida Fazli. I realised it when radio Ceylon played songs penned by him this morning. I must admit here that I didn’t know that he had passed away last year of a massive heart attack. Another thing I should admit was that I never knew that he was that old a poet.

People talk about the rich voice quality that Amitabh Bachchan has – the baritone etc. But has it occurred to anyone that there are and were and will be other actors who have or had similar voice? One such voice was that of Mogambo. There are tales that tell how the makers of “Mr. India” went from Danny to Amjad Khan to any other known faces of that era to play the character of Mogambo. Each one had his own reason for not taking up that character and eventually Amrish Puri ended up being The Mogambo and now it is impossible to even imagine any other person as Mogambo. I am unable to distinguish the man from the character and part of the power in the role was the voice of the actor.

Happy New Year 2017 to all
I was trying my level best to resist the urge to write out a song in memory of RDB- our very own Pancham. Not because I don’t like RD Burman, I know the whole world of Atulites know how much I love Pancham, just that I was too occupied with other things which needed a lot of my time. But then I remembered that I had selected a song and had wanted to send it across to Atul to be posted today (4 january 2017).

Today is 24th December 2016 -92nd birth anniversary of Mohammad Rafi.
At first I thought I would not be able to do a post which does justice to the persona of Mohd Rafi. Even now I am not trying to; all that I am doing is bringing to the blog a song which shows the vocal range that Rafisaab was gifted with. And this is not a super classical song but a fun song which one would normally expect Rafi to sing for Shammi Kapoor. But today’s song is for Shashi Kapoor and one should be excused if there is a feeling of the song being a Shankar- Jaikishan creation. Why? Because the director duo of this song were once music arrangers & assistants for Shankar Jaikishan.

This kingdom called Atulsongaday is eight years complete and it is running in its ninth year. It has covered 12725 songs from 3570 movies out of which 850 have all their songs posted. This is no mean feat.

So today is the 81st birthday of our favourite “he-man” (a tag like the angry-young-man tag that was given to Amitabh Bachchan a long time ago.)
Born in Punjab and loved the world over he is an actor first who went on to become a producer to launch his sons in filmdom. He was possibly the only actor to have sailed successfully through the Rajesh Khanna and then the Amitabh Bachchan wave. He had a hold on comedy too -“Chupke Chupke” is a case in point. So today we are celebrating Dharamendra.

I just realised that today (24 november 2016) is the birthday of another 70s/80s actor, producer director. Yes I am talking of the man who made the common man or the boy-next-door feel like a hero- Amol Palekar. I can’t believe he turns 73 today. it seems like yesterday that we saw him in Chitchor, Rajnigandha and Choti Si Baat. It seems like only recently that we saw him searching for a house with Zarina Wahaab and singing “Do deewane shahar main”, or desparately trying to convince his mom about Tina Munim being the right girl for him to get Married to (Baaton Baaton Mein). Then one fine day we saw him as a villian in Vinod Chpora’s ” Khamosh”. With his clean image one would have never guessed that he was the serial killer in that movie. In between all this we also saw him playing a husband to Parveen Babi (Rang Birangi) where he is tutored by Deven Verma about how to bring back the romance in his married life.
