एक सागर है, आवाज़ का, जिसमे डूबे ही रहने को मन करता है।
These are times to be thankful. And to feel blessed. That we are living in the times when this treasure of music was created. We continue to search and explore and continue finding gems, obscure gems, unheard gems, lost gems – songs that were once created with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal. Yes, these are times to feel blessed that these gems are available and accessible. I am really anxious about the day, and shrink away from the thought – the day when we will have no more songs of Rafi Sb to post. Life will continue, no doubt. It has a relentlessness built into it. But then, we will be carrying with us, an emptiness – that there are no more “unheard” songs to search for.

Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs – 10
—————————————————–
[Note of Apology: This write up has been in the making since two nights, including the “telephonic interview”. Apologies that I was not able to post it before midnight yesterday. But then the thought comes – it is still 19th July somewhere in the world. Ah yes, our Khyati Ben in Los Angeles, USA, is still working through the 19th. So in a ‘relative’ way, this post is still on time. A brief summary of the celebration events covered herein – seventh anniversary for the blog, 11,300th song posted, and the completion of the planned ‘Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs’ series. Read on.]
[Note of Apology 2: With due apologies to Atul ji, for having taken some liberties in narrating certain aspects of his household. I am very sure the permission towards these liberties are/will be granted, even though the same has not yet been formally requested 😉 ]
Einstein has said, and he must have been quoted on this many million times by now, that ‘time is relative’. There are a variety of different explanations and discourses on this single statement, depending on the perspective or the branch of science or maths, or for that matter, any other subject, that one is considering. There is a very interesting anecdote connected with this statement. Once a newspaper reporter asked Einstein to explain in simple terms, what is the meaning of the phrase ‘time is relative’. And Einstein, without going into any mathematical or philosophical explanations, gave the following response. He said – consider the situation when someone is holding your feet to the fire. In such a circumstance, a passage of even 5 seconds would seem as if an hour has passed. Then again, think of a situation, when you are sitting and talking ‘sweet nothings’ with your beloved. Then, after an hour has passed, it would seem to you as if just maybe five minutes have gone by. That is what makes time relative. 🙂

Hearty greetings to all friends and readers for the gracious festival of Id today.
The days of fasting and penance have ended, and now comes the grand celebration of Id. Today is the first day of the month of Shawwal. Today is the day when festive spirit is at its most cheerful, the attire of the people is the finest, and more than anything, the bonhomie and the bonds of friendship are at their best. It is the time to leave behind any differences and the memories of any past offenses, to forgive and to forget the resentments. As the lines of this celebratory song emphasize,
ye wo din hai ke hans hans kar giley shiqwe bhula dena
agar dushman bhi aa jaaye to ye keh kar manaa lena
id ki shaam hai
Today is the day to forget the resentments with a smile
Even if an enemy comes face to face
Give a hug and reconcile, and say
It is the day of Id today

As of the last episode, my tale of habitation in Bombay (in the post “Bambai Shehar Ki Tujhko Chal Sair Karaa Doon”) was put on hold at the Pali Hill guest house of the Tatas. With this post now, I pick up the threads and move ahead with that story.

A look at her face (in the photos online), and it is difficult to believe that she is a grandmother of four years now. Her daughter, Riddhima, gave birth to a girl child in 2011. Rewinding further back, her wedding in 1980 to her frequent co-star Rishi Kapoor, seems like a news one read in the paper just a few weeks ago. At 57 today, her smile and the bright countenance belies her age.
Wishing a very happy birthday to Neetu Singh today (8th July).

The stock photograph that is available shows a very suave and handsome Sikh gentleman. The beard is neatly packed, the moustache is starched razor sharp, and the turban is a perfect construct. Six feet plus, with a very fair skin – all attributes put together make up a very attractive and becoming personality. By his own admission, he labels himself to be a romantic – and that he had to be in love to be able to create music. The others called him a “ladies man”.
Remembering Sardul Kwatra on the anniversary of his passing away today (6th July).

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 23
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
‘Aankhen’ was released in 1950. Most people remember it for being the debut film of music director Madan Mohan. Amongst all the wonderful songs that caught the attention of the listeners, there is this lovely melody in the voice of Meena Kapoor, that really steals away your heart – “Mori Atariya Pe Kaaga Bole, Mora Jiya Doley, Koi Aa Rahaa Hai”. For me, it is this one song that makes this film and its music memorable. This is one of the two songs that Bharat Vyas wrote for this film.
Remembering Bharat Vyas on the anniversary of his passing away (5th July).

Fabulous Foot Tappers – 5
– – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Sometimes it so happens that some song is so well ingrained in memory that it appears as if, oh well, everyone must remember this song. And further, it simply cannot be so that this song is not yet on the blog. But then, surprises never cease, right?
This wonderful song is a keen memory from the childhood radio listening days. As I am browsing through my collection of the 1960s, I come across the 1965 film ‘Sindbad, Alibaba, Alladin’. The list of songs rang a few bells I just happened to check the list on the blog. Two songs from this film are absolute foot tappers. One of them is already posted – “Mera Naam Jinny, Soney Ki Ginni”. But this song, is still waiting to be showcased. Well, here it is.
