Here is a quick quiz from me (searching, googling etc. allowed). Which song was the 5000th song in the blog ? Easy, you say, it is the song Hamen to loot liya milke husnwaalon ne (Al Hilaal)(1958). Alright, here is the next question- who lip syncs the immmortal qawwaali ? It is difficult, but not difficult for those who have gone through the huge writeup on this song in the blog. 🙂 The artist lip syncing this song is called Sheikh.

The blog completed six years yesterday (19 july 2014). It was planned to touch the much anticipated 10,000th song mark on that day, but that could not be achieved due to unavoidable circumstances. Today the circumstances are favourable. And fortunately it happens to be a sunday as well. Today we are definitely going to touch the 10,000th song mark. What is more, this will be achieved when it is still 19 july 2014 in some parts of the world ! So the roundness of the world, which dictates that different nations have their own times comes to our rescue. 🙂

Introducing Shekhar Gupta – one of the quieter albeit active voices on the blog. Over the past two years, I have been in email communication with him, on various topics related to film music and the blog. He comes across as an unpretentious and humble personality, that belies his stature and accomplishments. Actually when we were racing towards 10000 I had thought that we will be reaching 10000 on June 27th and it will coincide with RD Burman’s birthday. But that was not to be as after all Atul has his responsibilities towards work and family which are a natural first in any one’s life. So we have reached Gaana number 9931. Chalo lets March Onto 10000.

“Baadal” (1966) was a Super Pictures Production. It was produced and directed by Aspi Irani. The movie had Sheikh Mukthar, L.Vijayalaxmi, Sanjeev Kumar, Helen, Kamal Mehra, Hira Lal,Shammi Aunty, Ratnamala, Niroo, Fazal Khan, Prem, Bob, Ali Razak etc in it.

There were at least two movies called “Sultana Daaku”. One was produced in 1956 and another in 1972.
Kaifi Azmi (14 january 1919- 10 may 2002), whose 12th death anniversary falls today (10 may 2014) was the lyricist in both these movies. He shared the duty of lyrics writing with three other lyricists in “Sultana Daaku” (1956) whereas he was the only lyricist for “Sultaana Daaku” (1972).
