Today 13th October 2015 is the death anniversary of Kishore Kumar.
He was born in Khandwa on 4th August in 1929. Recently I got a chance to visit Khandwa as many as four times for my official work.

Today, the 4th of August, is a day we celebrate as the birth anniversary of one of Hindi film industry’s undoubted geniuses, Kishore Kumar.
The term “genius” tends to get thrown around rather loosely and frequently nowadays, much like terms like “legend” and “great”. This is all the more reason why I am rather cautious when I use it and certainly don’t throw it around.
Having said that, I have absolutely no hesitation in using it for Kishore Kumar (or Kishoreda as he is fondly referred to by his friends and fans). Kishore da was one of those rare individuals who tried his hand at many dimensions of the industry – and left a mark with most of them. In a sense, he can be called a true harfan maula of the industry.

As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.

Today (18 july 2015) is the third death anniversary of Rajesh Khanna ( 29 december 1942- 18 july 2012). People who only read about his superstardom in article and who did not live through that era will not be able to understand what that meant. The entire India was head over heels in love with Rajesh Khanna from late 1960s to early 1970s. Like all good things, it was too good to last forever, though. Rajesh Khanna was not able to handle his superstardom and he began to alienate those who had helped him reach the top. The same people who helped him reach the top began to desert him in favour of the next superstar in the making, viz Amitabh Bachchan, who was better equipped to handle his superstardom.

‘Jaaneman-1976’ was directed by Chetan Anand for Navketan International Films Pvt.Ltd, Bombay. The story of this movie was also written by Chetan Anand. The movie had Dev Anand, Hema Malini, Prem Nath, Ajit, Durga Khote, Paintal, Gautam Sarin, Jankidas, Ranjan, Bharat Kapoor, Jagdish Raj, Hercules, Shamim Banu, Uma Dhawan, Rajni Bala, Sudhir, Jazebel, Sharat Saxena, Pardesi, Chandu, Manik Dutt, Manmauji, Prem Sagar and Dharamveer. Ifthekhar featured in a ‘guest appearance’ in this movie.

Waqt ki Deewar (1981) starred today’s birthday girl Sulakshana Pandit and birthday boy Sanjeev Kumar as the romantic pair. The other pair being Jeetendra with Neetu Singh (yesterday’s birthday gal). The supporting cast included Pran-Kadar Khan- Amjad Khan-Satyen Kappu-Preeti Ganguly-Paintal etc. {What a support system} The movie was directed by Ravi Tandon; T C Dewan was the producer, Laxmi Pyare were the music directors and Anjaan the lyricist. The movie was a typical run-of-the mill LOST AND FOUND drama where the heroes Munna and Vikram get separated after their mother’s death. One of them becomes a conman the other is looked after by Pran and becomes a police inspector (how original). Through the movie their paths keep crossing but they are unaware of each other’s identity till the last half an hour of the movie. Poor chaps!! But the movie makes us sit through close to two and half hours by which time Pran dies in making the two understand that they are brothers, the brothers find their father (Kader Khan) and their love interests. All izz well in the end.

Atul often says that inspite of the blog having already clocked five-digit number of songs, there are still plenty of very good songs out there that have still not found their way to the blog.
In my opinion, that is not a bad thing, because it keeps our journey of discovery interesting and exciting. Compiling songs on this blog is as much about the journey as about the destination – and we take as much pleasure in the journey as in getting closer to our destination. We have milestones, minor and major, that keep beckoning to us to approach them – and as we pass each milestone, we not only celebrate it but also set our sights on the next one.

The picture shows one of the scenes of my dream we all know that the weirdest things in this world are dreams. Before this dream I read a book – ‘The midnight theft’. The name sounds good but the contents was just horrible. Now the question comes that if I found the book was such, then why did I go on to read the whole book. June 6th is Sunil Dutt’s birth anniversary. He was born in 1929, so we celebrate his 86th birthday. His debut film was Railway Platform (1955). The role of the idealist, who wants to change the society, would follow him for most part of the 50s. In 1963 he donned the role of a dacoit Thakur Jarnail Singh, which was quite unusual for the times. In fact, it was sort of an extension of his role in Mother India (1957). Dacoit roles would haunt him for the rest of his career. He did meaningful films, particularly with Chopra brothers in the 60s. His magnum opus Reshma aur Shera (1972) though left him in financial doldrums, which sent him on a film-signing spree throughout the 70s. At first it was to pay back his debts and later for the cancer treatment of his wife. He took leave of his career as a leading man after launching his son in Rocky (1981) with the film Dard Ka Rishta (1982).
