Nostalgia has always been a good topic for songs. There have been quite a few nostalgic songs in Bollywood movies that have become evergreen. Even among nostalgic songs, songs recalling one’s childhood tend to become most unforgettable of all such songs.
One of the most well known and well remembered nostalgic song about childhood is this song from “Devar” sung by Mukesh. This song is unlikely to be forgotten with time. It is simply timeless. Mukesh’s haunting voice and Anand Bakshi’s Shailendra like lyrics, not to forget Roshan’s timeless music, has seen to it.

1980s had seen steady deterioration in the quality of Bollywood movie music, but every once in a while one could still come across some beautiful songs.
Here is one such song. The movie sank almost without trace, but this song has remained in memory. A beautifully sung song by Kishore Kumar for that ageing superstar Rajesh Khanna. Such songs were almost becoming anachronism in those days, and I do not think this song became too popular. But as far as discerning listeners are concerned, it will count among the best songs of Kishore Kumar.

Bappi Lahiri is widely held responsible for the deterioration in the quality of Bollywood music in 1980s. But that is not now how he started his career. He had begun with some nice music in Zakhmee and Chalte Chalte. He was getting nowhere with good music, but when he gave chaalu music, he was instantly successful, and that made him cynical enough to decide that he needed to put crass commercialisation above classy music to forge ahead in his career.
But Bappi Lahiri was capable of giving good music and he would often surprise fans by coming up with great music in the midst of shrill and plagiarised disco songs.

Kishore Kumar was a master of comedy songs, but he could sing sad songs equally wonderfully, as we have seen earlier. Here we see yet another quality of Kishore Kumar’s singing. He could sing nostalgic songs just as remarkably. Laxmikant Pyarelal are at their versatile best in this song.
The fact that this song uses a train in the lyrics as well as in the picturisation makes listening and watching this song a wonderful experience.

Today is the day Rafi left this world 28 years ago. And the Bollywood music world truly lost its voice. Every year, we pay our heartfelt tribute to Rafi in various ways on this day. One way of paying our tribute is by playing his immortal songs.
There are some songs that are bound to figure in everyone’s list on this occasion.
Not all of these great songs were created by big name music directors. There are some immortal Rafi songs created by lesser known Music directors as well. People may not have heard of these music directors, these songs may not have become too popular in countdown shows, the movies containing these songs may have sunk without a trace- but one fact remains. All these Rafi songs have become immortal nevertheless.

What makes a song tick and makes it hummable? Here let me talk about just this song. If you have not seen the movie or the visuals of the song, you can still visualise the theme by listening to the lyrics and the tune. One can make out that the two persons are on a hill station and are yearning for those days when they had time and the life went on at a leisurely pace. Listen to the lyrics, and listen to the music, both go hand in hand like the two actors ( Sanjiv Kumar and Sharmila Tagore) enacting the scene, at perfect harmony with each other.
