Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-4 (1984)
(Celebrating Pancham’s 86th Birth Anniversary 27.06.2025 – 3)
——————————————————————————————————
Today we are celebrating Pancham’s music on the blog on his 86th birth anniversary. Whenever there is a discussion of songs composed by R D Burman and I recollect my oldest memories of Rahul Dev Burman’s songs I have a some stories and incidence to share that have never forgotten. I was born in February-1968. For Pancham that was the year of movies like ‘Abhilaashaa’ and ‘Padosan’. Songs of these movies would have started making waves by then. We know that the music of both the movies catapulted R D Burman to the top, so it is natural that the songs from these movies would have been played on Radio/loudspeakers all the time those days. That music must have been falling on my ears during my infancy 😊

Hullo Atuldom
“Pukaar” is a title that appears five times on the blog’s ‘LIST OF SONGS MOVIEWISE’. The title has been used in movies released in 1939, 1983 & 2000; there have been two unreleased films with this title who’s years have been given as 1970 & 1971. Meer Sahab, R. D. Burman & A. R. Rahman were the music director for the 1939, 1983 & 2000 released ‘Pukaar’ (don’t know if there is a plural possible for the word ‘Pukaar’). Naushad & Ejaz Ashok were the music directors of the unreleased ‘Pukaar’. All the films with the title ‘Pukaar’ that are on the blog are only one or two songs old. (Here I would like to mention that I am speaking of the films posted & I don’t know if there are any other films with the title ‘Pukaar’ yet to appear on the blog).

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990)
Today 27th June’2024 is the birth anniversary of Rahul Dev Burman. On this occasion we are paying our tributes to him by posting some of the songs composed by him.
For the last few years I have been regularly listening to songs composed by R.D. Burman on radio or on playlist recorded in a pen-drive. It is always a pleasure to listen to the songs composed by Pancham as many RD Burman songs composed by him are my favourites. Listening to his well known songs as well as songs that I was not aware of is a new experience now. I during my growing up years may not have been able to discern the nuances of his music, including music created through unconventional ‘instruments’.

Music is an irresistible thing. It energizes the soul and is a great stress buster. Indian film music especially is very enchanting and melodious to listen.
Years back, during the age of black and white movies, there was not much variety in music. If you listen to old Hindi songs, you will find almost the same beats. The music was simple, yet it was very melodious. Singers like Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata and Asha were simply outstanding and still their magic is alive.

“Yaadon ki baraat” was a movie full of memorable foot tapping numbers. Its songs are what I would call party songs. These songs were sung in parties in the movie. In fact, the entire movie was full of parties and every party had one memorable party song.
One song that was extremely popular among teens like me was the song where the boy invites a girl to come to the stage. A dream situation for desi teens those days. No wonder I simply loved this song.
