‘Dilli Ka Dada’ is a film from 1962. As I started to write this piece, just wondered, how many films have been made whose names are based on city names, referring to someone from there. At first I thought, may not be many, but as I start to think about it, just in a couple of minutes, I could identify ‘Baghdad Ka Chor’ (1932, 1946, 1955), ‘Hyderabad Ki Naazneen’ (1952), ‘Arab Ka Saudagar’ (1956), ‘Dilli Ka Thug’ (1958), ‘Bombay Ki Billi’ (1960), ‘Bambai Ka Babu’ (1960), ‘Bombay Ka Chor’ (1962). And I am sure there are many more yet to be listed. Let’s see how many more such names our readers can up with. 🙂

Here is a Rafi Lata duet that I was not aware of till now. This song is from “Maa Aur Mamta” (1970), which had Jeetendra and Mumtaz in lead roles.

While looking for Jaidev compositions to be posted today (6th january) on his death anniversary, I came across gems after gems that I heard in my formative days without having any inkling that they were composed by Jaidev. These are songs that tempted me to hold on to them for some other special occasions. But if I hold on to all his compositions for some future occasion then I will have to stop discussing Jaidev compositions, such is the quality of all the songs that I am coming across.

4th january is the birthday of Pradeep Kumar, a leading actor of 1950s and 1960s, who later began to play character roles in 1970s. That way, he was the male equivalent and contemporary of Nirupa Roy with whom he shares his date of birth.
