When R D Burman was given the job of music direction in a Shammi Kapoor movie called “Teesri Manzil”, many eye brows were raised, including Shammi Kapoor’s, but once the songs were recorded and picturised, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that a great star was born among music directors, one who would rewrite music direction in Bollywood movies for the next decade or so.

Jeetendra, who can be said to have taken over from Shammi Kapoor when it came to roles that called for vigorous dancing, was nicknamed Jumping Jack. I have no idea which movie earned him that sobriquet. My suspicion is that it was the movie “Farz”. And just how vigoorously could he dance ? I think this song from “Jigri Dost” gives us some idea.
