Today (27 november 2013) is the 40th death anniversary of Bhagatram (Date of death 27 november 1973) of the Husnlal Bhagatram music director duo. It is unfortunate that little information is available about this duo who had the distinction of being the first music director duo in Hindi movies.

“Taj”(1956) was a Dossi Films production. It was produced by Fali Mistry and directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal. the movie had Vyjayantimala, Pradeep Kumar, Bipin Gupta, Jeevan, Shakuntala, Kammo, Amar, Jajo, Kathana, Qamar, Helen, Roopmala, Ulhas etc in it.

I had never heard of the film ‘Baawraa’ (1950) until last week. While browsing on the internet, I came across an audio clip of a song from this film. The song was ‘saahil jo dubo de kashti ko saahil ki tamanna kaun karen’. I liked the lyrics and the music composition with Rafi’s voice giving it a finishing touch as per the mood of the song. The song in theghazal format was written by Amarnath Khanna and set to music by Krishan Dayal. The film was produced under the banner of Shri Durga Pictures and directed by G Rakesh.

I am very much aware of the fact that some much better and rarer songs are out there which could have been posted. Their time will surely come, but it was not to be in this series.

It is time to get on with the series and to finish it. Or it will soon be the day of Rafi sahab’s Birth Anniversary, if I keep dwelling on how to start a post and what to write in it. I have written 24 posts so far in this series and running out of steam. Or ideas-after all how much small talk one can indulge in, given the by and large, one way dialogue of this series. There is no doubt about it, that I have enjoyed doing this series.
