So here is the ‘S’ alphabet song I talked about in my last post on ‘R’ song. It is a Rafi solo with two versions, one happy and one sad, from the movie “Jhuk gayaa aasmaan”. Such a musical blockbuster film starring Rajendra Kumar and Saira Bano. And wherever I was looking for Rafi sahab’s songs in the list with S-J’s music they were all in red. I could not believe my luck when I found that this song was not posted.

It is the turn of “Q” now. I had decided on this song sometime ago. And having looked for other options too, came back to this song.
The singer here singing a Rafi solo, is an unknown actor. He is a tailor by profession and has been offered 1000 dinars to stitch up a dead body. How morbid, I thought. Hence I was looking for a different occasion, location , occupation kind of song. But it turns out that this is the “Q ‘ song for the time being. The poor fellow has an unpleasant task in front of him and an obscene amount of money for this work which will take care of his poverty for a while.

Here is the “P” song in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. This is a semi classical solo song composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal in the film ‘Waapas” (1969). The lyricist of this song is the venerable poet Majrooh Sultabpuri. It is Majrooh’s birth anniversary today on 1st October, I have come to realise just now.

I did say in my last post of ‘N’ song that I will quickly move on to the next alphabet. But this post has got inadvertantly delayed at my level. The reason is my hectic schedule, which has made me a frequent traveller. Things are a bit crazy and and unsettled. I am one of those who hates travel. But then if the situation demands that you leave the comforts of home and be a backpacker, so be it. Hopefully, next month is going to be better than the last few months, with things resolved on one front at least which has taken me out of town thrice in two months.

A style icon of the industry, if ever there was one. A resplendent persona, clearly sparkling with the pathaan lineage behind him, his name spells out a split level career that he straddled almost all his active working years. A career that was forever in either the B grade cinema, getting the macho image of an anti-hero, long before the arrival of Amitabh, or being the friend or a brother of the leading man, whenever he got the opportunity to venture into the A grade films. Or the second level where he called his own shots, made his own films and produced one blockbuster after another.
Remembering Feroze Khan on his 74th anniversary of birth today.

I was looking for a song of Dev Anand for this Rafi series. Much as I wanted a composition by S. D. Burman to feature here as a typical Dev Anand song, I could not find one which was yet to be posted. What I found instead was this song from the movie “Dushman” (1957). This is a Rafi solo starting with the alphabet ‘N”. On screen Dev Anand is singing this on the streets, with kids in the area following him around. He is in disguise dressed up as a ‘magician’, singing repeatedly ‘main jaadugar Bangal kaa” so as to emphasise his profession.

It is time for the alphabet ‘M’ in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. I have taken my time in deciding which type songs are a must in the series and accordingly have almost finalised the songs in this list. Initially, when planning this series I just made a random selection of songs for ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’ to start it on time with Rafi sahab 33rd death anniversary.
