Today (11 october 2015) is the 73rd birth anniversary of Amitabh Bachchan (11 october 1942). From his date of birth, it can be seen that he was born a few months after the Quit India movement. Inspired by that movement, he was initially named “Inquibaab”. He was later renamed Amitabh on the suggestion of Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant who was a close friend of Amitabh’s father, poet Hariwanshrai Bachchan.

Good intentions are always the undoing. I am sure you would have also experienced this. मेरे साथ तो ये बहुत होता है. Take the case of this series itself. The second song is being posted today. When I initiated this series on 30th September with the song “Nigaahon Se Chhup Kar Kahaan Jaaiyega”, I had all the intentions to post one song at least every other day if not every day. After ‘yippiying’ the songs of 1957 ‘Anjali’ I start my journey forward, to complete Jaidev’s songs uncovered on this Blog. Film ‘Raat ke Rahi’ had two MDs. Bipin and Jaidev. Only two songs were composed by Jaidev and both were covered in this blog. Moving further, we come across three grate movies by Jaidev, viz ‘Hum Dono’, ‘Kinare Kinare’ and ‘Mujhe Jeene Do’. All these three films were listed in the list of ‘All Songs Covered’. So I come to 1967 film ‘Hamare Gham Se Mat Khelo’.

I think that I have got an unique song this time. This is a song from a film called Meri Asha-50. The song is sung by film comedian Agha aka Aghajaan Baig. I have never known that Agha had sung any song. Never came across any of his songs,nor read it in HFGK about his song, in his long career of almost 50+ years.

At last, “Mere DHIRaj ka badla SuDHIR-ji ne de hi diya.”
For quite a long time I was ignorant about this song except its mention in HFGK. Sudhirji, not only searched out the song for me, but also posted it on ‘YouTube’ to save my labour. I am going to thank him further, when as per his promise, he is going to colour-code the lyrics.

Let me explain the title and the intent of this new series. This series is an outcome of the project that our dear Katie Ben from ‘saat samundar paar se’ has undertaken, after she got hold of the Geet Kosh volumes. She zeroed in on volume 4, and she set about identifying all the films of the 1960s, that have yet to find a representation on the blog. Specifically, the period covered is 1961 to 1970. So she has very zealously pored through the fourth volume, page by page, film by film, and simultaneously kept on checking with the data on the blog.
