Here is a song from the film ‘Return of Johny’ (1972). I had never heard it before. When I started with noting down its lyrics; the first thing I did was to check up the year of release of the film ‘Kati Patang’. Why!! The answer lies in this song. It reminds us of the famous song “Mera Naam Hai Shabnam… Pyaar Se Log Mujhe Shabbo Kehte Hain” from the 1970 film ‘Kati Patang’. This song seems to be inspired from the ‘Kati Patang’ song.

Past few days have been very slow on the blog. Concerns have been expressed in the mails being exchanged not only between the regular team members, but also enquiries are coming from other readers and friends. Some expressions include statements saying that this blog has become such an integral part of their individual routine of the day. And on days when we have no posts – dot balls, or even maiden overs, as Atul ji likes to refer to such days, folks have expressed that something seems to be lacking in the day. And personally, I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment.

The Wonderful Sounds of 1930s – 1
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
The decade of 1930s will continue to remain a shaded mystery for the lovers of Hindi film music. In the decade when the Hindi film song was born and took its first fledgling steps, the creators and the keepers of this art probably did not envision the significance of this new medium and expansive influence it would go on to exercise on an entire culture, generation after generation. When the films, and more so, the talking films came into being, their predecessor was the various forms of folk theatre and formal stage drama. From time immemorial, since these art forms have existed, these have simply been live performances, with no thought or effort applied to somehow catalog and preserve them. The play was written, and its script was the primary record of its existence.
