In the early 70s Bangalore was heaven on earth. It was a city you could walk around in, full of gardens and broad sidewalks. If you were a movie lover, this was the place to be. My best friend Aruna lived a few houses away from me, we were constant companions to each other. A short distance from our house was Kempegowda Circle, or KG Circle, that was like a jungle of cinema houses. There were times when we found an empty ticket window, bought a couple of tickets, got into the hall and asked people in seats next to us about the movie that was playing. Some of the halls were so close together, it was hard to figure out where we were.

Remembering Mahendra Kapoor today, 9th Jan, his birth anniversary.
As I am searching for songs to post for today, I came across this simply super gem of a melody which I have heard long time back, and which has since been eluding me. This song just has to be counted amongst the best and softest duets ever. Rendered softer than silk and softer than velvet, this duet is by Asha ji and Mahendra ji. I am sure as you would hear this, the reaction is going to be, “wow, not posted yet?”.

“Tamanna” (1969) is a movie which was a K S Pictures presentation. It was directed by K P Atma. The movie had the ageing pair of Vishwajeet and Mala Sinha in the lead. Other actors in this by now obscure movie were Shashikala, Agha, Nazima, Deven Verma, Nazir Hussain, Sulochana, Sajjan, Achla Sachdev, Asit Sen, Krishan Dhawan etc.
