Missing Films of 1960s – 116
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Ah, wonderful. Revisiting an old friend after a very long gap. Feels good.

This series was initiated on 30th Sep, 2015, almost 5 years ago to the day. The series continued with a certain regularity almost for four years, till 1st July, 2019. That day, I had posted a rarest of the rare finds – “Taaron Bhari Raat Hai” – a song from the film ‘Hawa Mahal’ (1962), a film which is very much available in video, but sadly all its songs have been axed from the VCD release. I had written in that post, that I had even gone beyond the VCD version and searched out the VHS cassette of the film, and even that had no songs. But fortunately, searching thru film, I accidentally chanced to catch half a song that appeared at the end of the film. Probably, when the editors were making the cuts, for whatever reasons (which we do not know at this point), they had missed out the closing shots of the film, whereat one song is repeated partially as is the tradition followed in many Hindi films we know.

Blog ten year challenge (2010-2020)- Song Number 77
————————————————–

If nothing else, then this week 10 years ago has to be characterized as the ‘Anmol Ghadi’ week. I am sure it was by design that every day of this week (actually six days of this week, barring the last day), the first song posted every morning is a song from the 1946 film ‘Anmol Ghadi’. This film has 12 songs listed in the Geet Kosh. As we entered this week ten years ago, five of these were already posted on the blog. That left seven. I am sure Atul ji took it upon himself to get the ‘Yippeee’ status for this film in a quick order, by posting one each of the remaining seven songs on each day of the week. And be done with it.

Today, August 18th 2020 is 86th Birth Day of the poet, lyricist, story, screen-play and dialogue writer, producer and director, Gulzar. His presence in Hindi film industries is an assurance that lovers of Hindi films and Hindi film songs would continue to get the opportunity to watch and listen to the meaningful films and songs. I regard Gulzar Saab as an extension of what Sahir Ludhianvi left in October 1980 – a legacy of poetry in Hindi film songs.

I have already covered a substantive information about the filmy career of Gulzar saab in my articles ae hairat-e-aashiqui jagaa mat on the occasion of his 85th birth day last year and in shaam se aankh mein nami si hai, abut 5 years back. Also, there is no dearth of information on Gulzar Saab on the internet, in the print media and his website. So, I would skip this part.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No.50
————————————————–

Ten years ago, viz on 5 August 2010, the blog had covered six songs from six different movies, belonging to years from 1959 to 1973. Details of these songs are as follows:-

Song post number song Movie-year Remarks
2732 Sajna lagan teri sone na de Duniyaa Naa Maane-1959 YIPPEED (All 8 songs covered)
2733 Raaz e dil unse chhupaayaa naa gayaa Apna Banaake Dekho-1962 YIPPEED (all ten songs covered)
2734 Aaj huaa meraa dil matwaalaa Chhote Nawaab-1963 YIPPEED (All 8 songs covered)
2735 Wo chale jhatak ke daaman Hamraahi-1963 YIPPEED (All 8 songs covered)
2736 Ruk jaa roktaa hai ye deewaanaa Mr X in Bombay-1964 YIPPEED (All 6 songs covered)
2737 Wo jidhar dekh rahe hain sab udhar dekh rahe hain Sabak-1973 3 songs covered out of 7

One can observe that the first five movies covered that day have already been YIPPEED by now. That leaves us with only one movie viz “Sabak”(1973), that has not yet been YIPPEED and so this movie is eligible for the blog ten year challenge today.

Today 25th July 2020 is being celebrated as Naag Panchami falling in this year ‘shraavan maas’ shukla paksh on Panchami. Greetings to all on this occasion which also marks the beginning of many upcoming festivals in our country.

For this occasion, I had earlier noted a movie falling under ‘movies with same titles’ to be presented with a song on the blog for today. However, when I checked that movie, I do not find a suitable song ‘praising naag devtaa’ in that movie (from seventies). Then I looked a new movie from the ‘seventies’ having ‘naag’ related titles so that it can make a ‘debut’ on the blog. But I could not find a suitable song in that movie too.

Today is 19 july 2020. It was on this day in 2008 that this blog had started.

I had observed that the starting date was perhaps pre ordained. That day in 2008 was the first day of the month of Shraawan (or saawan), which is so very appropriate for a HFM blog, seeing that a big chunk of FM is inspired by saawan related songs, viz “rain songs”, “saawan ke jhoole” songs, and many other genres of songs.

I recently made another discovery. 19 july 2008 (and also today viz 19 july 2020) happen to be the 200th day of the year ! So, the belief that some higher forces , (rather than us mortals) are driving the affairs of this blog gets validated yet again.

– नमस्कार सर जी , जय श्री कृष्ण,
अविनाश बोल रहा हूँ,

– बोलिए बोलिए अविनाश भाई,

– कैसे हैं सर आप

– मुझे क्या हुआ है ?

That is our respected Bharat Bhai. I spoke to him last in this March. Just a courtesy call. But whenever I spoke to him, he was always energetic, full of life and cheerful. . .

I used to call him occasionally, in between particularly after meeting him first time in November 2016 during the Mumbai gang-out. Thereafter the second meeting happened in April 2018 at Surat when Arun ji, Sadanand ji and Bharat Bhai came to meet Harish Raghuvanshi ji at his place.
