Today’s song is from the film Paak Daman-1957.
The story of this and other such same titled films was from a popular stage drama of the early 1900s. There were many versions of the story with small and big variations. The Parsi Urdu Theatre’s dramas were penned by Agha Hashra Kashmiri, known as Shakespeare of India. The Parsi Gujarati plays were written by various authors. Syed Yawar Aliu, a student of Dagh Dehlvi penned the script for the Moon Parsi Theatre. The Alfred drama company had their own version of this story.

Carl Sagan, in his book, ‘Pale Blue Dot’ talks about the picture taken by Voyager I before it left the solar system. Planet Earth, the only home we have known so far appears less than a fraction of a pixel in the picture. It’s on this speck of dust like object in the vast cosmos lived every human, plant and animal we ever know and every civilization.
On this planet the greatest men in a wide variety of fields have left behind their legacies both good and bad. Their lives however great or condemnable have been spent here. In the vastness of time and space, a few years spent by great men may mean nothing. However, the legacy left behind by such men are recognized and appreciated for generations.

Of the many colors of Rafi Sb’s voice, probably the most touching, and the most impressive is his interpretation of the emotions of sadness. Maybe, it be so that the “. . . sweetest songs are the ones that tell of the saddest thoughts” (from the poetry of Percy Shelley, that inspired the iconic song of ‘Patita’ (1953) – “Hain Sab Se Madhur Wo Geet Jinhen Hum Dard Ke Sur Mein Gaate Hain”). ———————————————
This duet is from film Pagle-50,sung by Talat and Rajkumari.
This duet was a combination of an upcoming Young male singer and a waning middle aged female singer. But there was ONE common thing between them. We all know, Talat had a ‘Tremor'( Kampan) in his voice-which set him apart from all other singers of his times. Few people know that even Rajkumari had a Tremor in her voice-albeit a faint one- which actually made her voice sweet and melodious making her voice different from others.
