Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 4
———————————————————

I have been looking for some rare songs which are generally not available on YT. Some of them are gems which are required to be brought to the notice of the wider section of the admirers of Hindi film music. Thanks to some of the collectors of old Hindi film songs and also thanks to internet technologies, such gems can now be stored in mp3 format and easily shared. One of the websites which has become a kind of a store house of old Hindi film songs in mp3 format is Dr Surjit Singh’s Website. Since then, the only additional information I could get about this film was that it was a social genre film. The film’s VCD/DVD is not available.

In the history of Rajputs, the name of Panna Dai has become immortal because of her supreme sacrifice. I first came to know about the story of Panna Dai in the Rajput history lesson during my school days. The only thing I remember of the story till a few days back was that Panna Dai sacrificed her own son to save the future Maharana of Mewad, Udai Singh for whom she was the Dai (Nanny). The detailed story of the 16th century nursemaid Panna Dai is available on Wikipedia.
