In this blog, I have been discussing Sajjad Hussain’s compositions these days. I have covered nearly 40 % of all the songs that he composed in Hindi movies and finding the remaining songs is becoming a tall order as they are all rare songs, not easil available. So every day I wonder where my next Sajjad Hussain song will come from.

There have been several movies called “Majboor”. I have discussed songs of movies of this name that were released in 1964 and 1974. The oldest “Majboor” was released in 1948 itself, though.

“Paaras” (1949) is a movie that starred Rehman, Kamini Kaushal and a very young Madhubala. Today this movie is not remembered much but I find that the songs of this movie are quite delightful.

By now I have discussed as many as 39 songs composed by Sajjad Hussain for Hindi movies. Considering that he gave music for only about 100 songs, finding the remaining songs is becoming increasingly difficult and so discovery of every additional Sajjad Hussain song from now onwards in a cause to rejoice, because the remaining song are truly difficult to locate.

Kishore Kumar made his debut as a playback singer in 1948 when he sang for Dev Anand in “Ziddi” (1948). For nearly two decades after that, he remained a marginal singer who only sang for himself and occasionally for others (read Dev Anand).

“Parda” (1949) was a K pictures presentation. It was directed by A G Soorma. This movie had Rehana, Chand, Amar, Kusum Thakur, Ansari etc in it.

There were two movies called “Doosri Shaadi” that were produced in 1940s. One was released in 1947 and the other one in 1949. Both these movies had different teams.

Dil hi to hai tadap gayaa

Most of the songs discussed in these pages are “normal” songs in the sense that these songs were released normally, viz they were included in the movie and were released on records as well.
