I have noticed that older Hindi movies (early 1950s and before) were far more liberal and open minded than the movies that followed. For instance, many scenes that began to be looked down upon as against Indian culture (viz kissing, swimming etc) were quite common in earlier movies. Not just that, hypocritical stands like heroines refusing to do swimming scenes is a recent phenomenon of 1970s because it was considered “exposing” their bodies. The fact that the heroines who took such stand did not have exposable may also have influenced their stand.

I have mentioned in the past that I intend to discuss all Sajjad Hussain songs in this blog that I could locate. Out of about 100 Hindi movie songs that Sajjad Hussain composed in his career, I have already discussed 27 songs. Searching for the remainder of the songs is turning out to be rather more difficult than expected (or perhaps I should have expected that) because many of the songs are quite obscure (as are the movies that these songs belong to). Even the information pertaining to these songs is difficult to find.

There are some music directors who have composed throusands of songs and discussing most of their songs will take ages. But there are some music directors who have composed much less number of songs and it should be possible for me to post most of their compositions if I put my mind to it.

Sajjad Hussain was a music director who could create amazing music but his ability to make enemies meant that he got very few opportunities to showcase his abilities as a music director. He composed only about one hundred songs in 14 movies. He was described by Anil Biswas as the only original music director in Hindi movies. Coming from Anil Biswas, it is very high praise indeed !

All those who are into Hindi movies are told that the romantic song in Hindi movie consists of the hero and heroine singing this song running around trees. Now, I have been a veteran movie watcher (and these days a veteran songs watcher), and I have watched thousands of romantic songs but I failed to locate even one song where the lead duo are shown running around trees.
