Today (14th february) is Valentine’s day and regulars may have wondered why we in ths blog did not discuss any songs on this occasion. It has intrigued me as to why Jaan Nisar Akhtar, who joined the film industry as a lyricist in early 50s was not as successful as his contemporaries such as Sahir Ludhianvi, Majrooh Sultanpuri and Shakeel Badayuni among others. I came to know about him as a lyricist when I bought a 78 RPM records of YASMIN (1954) in early 70s.

In Hindi movies, most artists tend to get typed cast and most people can only visualise one standard kind of performance from them. When it comes to Hindi movie music, for instance, what kind of music does one expect when Bharat Vyas is the lyricist and S N Triptahi is the music director ? We expect songs that are either bhajans or semi classical songs.

“Aashiq” (1962) was a Reuben Dubey production movie. Bunny Reuben and Vijay Kishore Dubey were the producers of the movie. The movie was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. The movie had Raj Kapoor,Padmini, Nanda, Raj Mehra, Johnny Walkar, Mukri, Keshto Mukherjee, Abhi Bhattacharya, Leela Chitnis, Honey Irani, Nana Palsikar, Achala Sachdev, Madhumati etc in it.

Here is another song of the popular genre namely “How come this song was not yet discussed ! ” 🙂
This is a well known evergreen song which most music lovers know even if many of them are not aware of the details of the song. Even I was not aware about the details. It is only now that I have becme aware that this song is from ‘Hamraahi” (1963) and that it is picturised as a melancholic song on Rajendra Kumar and Jamuna.

This find is simply exciting. A song that is foot tapping, and very hummable, full of delight. Another one, heard long, long back, and then lost. Just bumped into it today, and just could not wait to write a post. The birthday of Suman Kalyanpur has just passed on 28th Jan. I would rather send in a belated greetings than wait for another year. This song is just too good to wait for that long.
