‘Khaakaan’ from 1965 is a film I have never heard about before. Given the star cast, with Dara Singh in the lead, it definitely must have been a B grade costume action drama, that probably would have made the rounds of the B cinema circuit, and then went away. This is a song that I have heard on the radio many many years ago, and its melody and memories have remained with me all these years, without really knowing anything about its antecedents. Recently, I discovered this song on YouTube once again, and then found out more about the film and the song itself.

A few names do stand out as films easily remembered, viz., Chandrakanta, Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke, Dharamputra, Saadhna, Dhool Ka Phool, Black Cat, Bhai Bahen, Didi, Naya Raasta etc.

Today (19 january) is the date of birth of Kaifi Azmi. To many music lovers of younger generations, he may be a lesser known name, and even to me, he was a “boring” lyricist when I was growing up. Having grown up (hopefully) 🙂 I have come to appreciate Kaifi Azmi better. We have over one hundred Kaifi Azmi songs in this blog and that speaks volumes about the fact that Kaifi Azmi was one of the major contributors in making the Golden era of Hindi movie music what it was, viz a memorable era for music lovers.
