A few days back on the occasion of Amitabh and Rekha’s birthday I spoke of how famous or popular or well received their pairing was in Bollywood movies. There were other such equally popular jodis. Viz. Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh, Vinod Mehra- Moushmi Chaterjee, Rajesh Khanna with Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna with Mumtaz, Rajesh Khanna with Asha Parekh etc in my growing up years. Actually I thought that Jaya Bhaduri never made a geat pair on screen with Amitabh, I liked her more with Sanjeev Kumar or even Jeetendra. There were popular pairing in the previous generation of stars too. But I think we have more knowledgeable people in our group to list them. Now what made a pairing popular was how well they looked together or how had their movie fared at the box office or how much recall value their songs had.

I was not aware of the fact that “Fakeera” (1976) was made by the same team that made “Chor Machaaye Chor” (1974). I always regarded “Chor Machaaye Shor” (1974) as an A grade movie and “Fakeera” (1976) as a B grade one. The fact that Mumtaz was the leading lady in “CMS” and a Shababa Azmi, then known only for her arts movie roles had much to do with my opinions about the two movies.

Mukesh, a voice that simply does not cease to surprise. It is known that the total number of songs sung by him are numbering around 1,000. The only hope that this number may go up is discovery of maybe some more songs, but that number will not be huge. Most people refer to the Geet Kosh for identifying the songs under various categories. And it is a fact that the Geet Kosh still has some missing details, especially for the films in the 1930s and 1940s. If possible that continuing additional search may yield more details for some films, where the song details are missing. And we may be able to discover more songs sung by the singers in those years.
