“Mama Bhanja” (1977), not to be confused with Manmohan Desai directed “Chacha Bhatija” (1977), was directed by Naresh Kumar. The movie had real life Chacha bhatija (Shammi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor ) playing Mama and Bhanja respectively. The movie also had Parveen Babi, Asha Sachdev, Nadira, Jagdish Raj, Lalita Pawar, Ram Mohan etc in it.

“Bhumika”(1977) was a Blaze Film Enterprises Production. It was produced by Lalit M Bijlani and Freni Variava and directed by Shyam Benegal. The movie was based on “Sangte Aikaa”, a Marathi language book of memoirs written by Hansa Wadkar who led a flamboyant and unconventional life in the era as early as 1940s and who at that time focussed on an individual’s search for identity and self-fulfillment. Today (21 september) is the death anniversary of Tarachand Barjatya (10 may 1914 -21 september 1992) who was the founder of Rajshree Productions and he produced several well known and well loved movies. Rajshree Productions is still going strong even after his demise.

I have heard of the movie called “Kunwaara Baap” (1974) but I was not aware of a movie called “Chhota Baap”. It turns out that a movie of this title was released in 1977. This movie, despite being a recent movie by the standards of this blog has ended up joining the ranks of obsure movies. This movie was a B grade movie. It was directed by Shantilal Soni. The movie had Romesh Sharma, Bindiya Goswami, Alankar Joshi, Asit Sen, Paintal, Dhumal, Dina Pathak etc in it. With this kind of starcast, it should come as no surprise that few people wanted to watch this movie or even wanted to have anything to do with it.

I wonder if someone has ever tried to analyse why people like some songs and not other songs. Why do some songs become timeless classic while others are forgotten after their initial run.
