Today’s song is a duet from the film Khoj-1953. A total of 3 films were made with the same title Khoj, in 1953, 1971 and 1989.
Long time back, I don’t exactly remember when, I had read in an English book on Psychology that as a rule, 7 people in this world are mirror images of each others – which means they look exactly like each others ! I could hardly believe it. The book further said that this does not include twins- because they naturally look alike mostly. This made their earlier statement more intriguing.

Hullo Atuldom
As students, i.e. during school days, we used to be given an exercise in language class. We would be given a paragraph, story or poetry & asked to read it for a few minutes. There would be a set of questions, at the end of the passage or writeup, that would test how much we have understood what was written. Often the last question would be to give a suitable Title to the writeup. This activity used to be called COMPREHENSION in English, forgive me for not being able to recall what ‘comprehension’ is Hindi & Marathi. These are the three main languages that I learnt in school, that is why I am looking for the word in Hindi & Marathi. Different matter that I learnt Malayalam too in school but I don’t recall having this in my Malayalam question paper.

‘Film Hi Film’ (1983), was produced by Shahab Ahmed and was directed by Hiren Nag. The film starred Pran in a role of a film producer with Seema Deo as his wife and Ramesh Deo as his Secretary. Rest of the cast consisted of Raj Kishor, Birbal, Mohan Choti, Pandit Iqbal, Mulchand, and the new faces, Furqan, Bipin, Sonia and Beena. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Kamaleshwar. It was a novel idea to incorporate scenes and songs from some of the incomplete/shelved films of 1950s, 60s and 70s into the story of the film.

Today’s song is from the film Fariyadi-1953.
The film was produced by Habeeb Sarhadi, under his own banner Habeeb productions, Bombay. It was also directed by him only. There were two Music Directors, namely B.N.Bali and Gulshan Soofi. Gulshan Soofi was a multifaceted artiste. He had acted in 7 films, as a singer, he had sung 14 songs in 7 films and as a Music Director he gave music to 11 film, composing 66 songs. This social film had a cast of Rahman, Shakuntala, H.Prakash, W.M.Khan, Mirza Musharaff, Jankidas and others. All the 8 songs of this film were written by Lyricist Mujaffar Orakzai (what a strange name !). He gave music to one more film-Anokha jungle-1956.

Today (11 December 2023) is the 101st birth anniversary of Dilip Kumar (11 December 1922 – 7 July 2021). He was the first superstar of Hindi movies, even though this term was not coined during his time. Those who later became known as superstars were often influenced by the acting style of Dilip Kumar.

In the hierarchy of Hindi film actors, apart from lead and supporting actors, there is one category of actors who falls between supporting actors and extras. One may call them ‘small role actors’. I found it difficult to identify many actors in this category especially when some of them would be uncredited in the films. One such actor is Ram Sethi whom I had seen in some films of 1970s and 80s. It is only when I joined this Blog in 2011, I came to know that Pyarelal of ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ (1978) was Ram Sethi. I have also seen him with Amitabh Bachchan in some more films like ‘Laawaaris’ (1981), ‘Yaaraana’ (1981), ‘Kaalia’ (1981), ‘Namak Halaal’ (1982) and ‘Jaadugar’ (1989).

Movies are entertainment, this is what my grandfather taught me. Whether or not it was explicitly told, all his children and grandchildren have this perspective in their blood. We all love movies and give every movie the suspension of disbelief you need to enjoy it. So while like everyone we enjoy really excellent movies, we also have a special affection for some movies that many others may not cop up to liking.
For my younger sisters(some may say cousins but they are my siblings), One such movie is “Mere Brother ki Dulhan” starring Imran Khan, Katrina Kaif and the Pakistani singer Ali Zafar. Interestingly, the director is also an Ali (Abbas) Zafar.

The above is not an attempt at any ‘Blog-Ten Year Challenge’. I was just looking up to see what were the films that appeared on the blog on that day ten years ago(8 december 2013) and the “YYIIPPEEEE” status of those movies.
